Add "Union" to that list and I agree 100% 6 crap studio albums for a band like Yes is a disgrace and an insult to the fans!

I agree, except Tormato and Magnification aren't all that bad. OK, at least Tormato. I bought Union (used, thank goodness) when I first got into Yes- partially lured by the awesome cover . I eventually sold it back a while after to the place I got it from.

The ONLY Yes studio albums I REALLY appreciate are:
The Yes Album
(Parts of) Fragile
Close to the Edge
Tales from Topographic Oceans
Relayer
Going for the One
This is the stuff I identify Yes with. The rest (though nice in parts) is allowed to steal away under my radar ...

Well I must say "Open your eyes" was a big disappointment, especially knowing Howe, Squire and Anderson were in the band at that point. This was a desperate effort in trying to be accessibke but the result was just a commercial piece of crap. 90125 or even Big Generator was a lot better !

Yes are never bad but the styles used on some albums are not to eveyone's taste.
e.g. 90125 gets bad reveiws because of the pop connection (but you gotta admit its real good pop)
|
NO I DONT HAVE TO ADMIT TO ANYTHING. 90125 is without doubt crap. They should have been put up against wall and shot for producing that pile of dung.

Tormato has his moments, it is clearly inferior to prior Yes production but it is still listenable. In my humble opinion, of course.

i don't think yes has held up past 1980 as well as some other acts for
sure. Although their 70s material is outstanding, I would say that rush
and floyd have been more quality consistent as the years have gone by.

Hi Vicky, a big welcome to the forum. Any "friend of Jim's...", well maybe not but welcome anyway!
Re Yes, the only album I've never been able to appreciate at all is Tormato. The sleeve doesn't help, but I just can't find anything on that album which holds my attention. I wouldn't call it awful, just dull.

I must listen to more Yes
I hated the "mincing tart" Anderson's voice (sorry that is really not fair but you know how it is when you are trying to fight something ) for years then I heard Topographic & was blown away

Indeed. I consider myself to be quite a big Yes fan but to my mind only
the Yes Album to Tormato period are worth any real consideration (and I
should point out I don't particularly like parts of these either).
Since then we've had cheesey pop and even cheesier attempts to recreate
an already somewhat cheesey brand of prog... Every Yes album is a
patchy affair, but does that detract from the greatness of songs like
CTTE, TGOD, or Awaken? It certainly doesn't in my opinion...

"Union" is of very poor quality. Trevor Rabin's songs (especially his lyrics) are not suitable to the Yes ethos. While his music may qualify as a type of Yes prog, what he sings about should have disqualified him from membership.
The Rabin era Yes was a disappointment and a noticeabe drop in musical quality.
