Would you consider Blind Guardian's most recent
albums prog metal?

i was originally going to say yes, but then,
considering their live performances, i guess i would
say no

i guess it depends, there studio albums are prog to
me anyways

I would say NO in ANY case...
I was listening to them some years ago when I didn't know what Prog could be (shame on me) and I was mainly listening to Metal and Classic Rock (Led Zep, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep)...I sold all their albums on eBay or gave them to my brother...
I consider them to be Heavy Metal not more...no prog...there are even people who don't consider Dream Theater as prog and I wonder why but it's the same for me with BG...no prog for me...

edit: and especially because their main formula for success are the bombastic refrains, there's no song without a refrain and all songs sound nearly the same, normal metal...

Give me a break!   What normal metal you been listening to?  Nightwish? Therion?

I would say B.G. is a fusion of Power Metal and Symphonic Metal, which I'll argue all day is a subgenre of Progressive Metal!

Standard or "normal" Heavy Metal artists would include Metallica, Megadeth, Rage, Monster Magnet etc. Don't sound like B.G. to me!

Hmmm...Guys...I wasn't this accurate...with "normal Metal" I just meant that it is NO Prog for me, I meant all other metal sub-genres except prog metal, that's it, I don't want to argue wich band plays wich sub-genre...that's unnecessary...

BTW, did I hurt someone by saying that BG is not prog for me or why do you use this emoticon  ???

No, please look, I did't use the emoticon, I did't say that MM is normal metal, I don't even KNOW MM...It was semismart (who also quoted me)...Why do you think I said all this, I don't know MM or Therion, it wasn't me...
I'm totally confused now  is this an error?

I don't know why some people consider bands like therion and nightwish as progmetal in the first place..
Its just something like gothicmetal.. like within temptation, autumn etc. ( the Olookatourfemaleleadsingerinherbigdress- metal)

Now I really breathe a sigh of relief

I don't know MM or Therion. I heard of Nightwish and Within Tamptation (My brother loves these "Olookatourfemaleleadsingerinherbigdress-Bands") But NEVER considered them to be prog...isn't this genre called Gothic Metal? No Idea!
I was listening to Blind Guardian, Manowar (yes, shame on me), My Dying Bride, Savatage (also often considered to be prog), Iron Maiden, Anathema and Opeth in my "Pre-Prog-Era" (amongst the whole Classic Rock Led Zep Uriah Hepp Stuff of course)...Opeth and some Savatage is all that survived the change...and Opeth is still one of my favorite bands...

Well as an fellow Ayreon fan I must respectfully disagree. There must be two Monster Magnets! The one I'm talking about is nothing but guitars(metal) and drums. . However, I thought maybe my ears deceived me so I looked them up on AMG and my Monster Magnet was listed as follows:

Styles

Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative Metal, Stoner Metal

Semismart, you should really check out Monster Magnet's self-titled debut EP. There's some great psychedelic rock on there. Mix between Hawkiwind and Black Sabbath I think!

And, diddy, I have two albums by Manowar, I used to like them, especially their debut.. but I don't listen to metal very often now..

Thanks I'll do that.

By the way, I am in awe of BG's fifteen minute song And Then There Was Silence. I Think BG sounds a lot like Queen on this and other songs. Anybody agree?
