I voted for Ian Anderson, but Peter Gabriel is certainly pretty unique...
But Thom Yorke?! Umm ok! |
Yep. I think he's rather odd and I had to represent the newer bands somewhow.
In fact, watch me vote for him! *votes for him* Did you see that?! Huh, didja?! That means that now Thom Yorke officially has the support of the Fuzzy Dude himself!! And we all know how much the Fuzzy Dude's support is worth! (Hint: Not a whole lot...)

Robert Fripp is not KC's "frontman." Hell, he even sat in the rear during the double-trio days!! KC's "frontmen" have been Greg Lake, John Wetton, and Adrian Belew. If I forgot somebody, so what. Those are the only guys that matter.
Out of that list, Ian Anderson, because he made the image of a "rocking bard" cool in the public eye. And he sang circles around Gabriel.

Yes he is, no they weren't, Fripp hates the spotlight, they wish they were, you're confusing him with Nick Drake, and now you're being ridiculous.

Yes, rocking bards.

Out of that lot, Ian Anderson. Even when Tull have released substandard studio albums, the live shows have always been excellent value.
However, for sheer out-there weirdness and charisma, Captain Beefheart would beat all of them. In non prog genres, Mark E Smith of the Fall and Pere Ubu's David Thomas are similarly gifted and unpredictable performers, as are Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Morrissey.

I'd have liked to have seen Fish included in that poll, as he was a superb frontman.
Sadly, I'd have still voted for PG, but Fish is easily in the top 5.

Ian Anderson - The best live performaner of the many I have seen. (though not prog - Bono early U2 was pretty outstanding as well)

Ian gets my vote!!!
We should have had to vote for five unique frontmen instead of one!!!!!
Cos in that case I would have included Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Arthur Brown and Peter Gabriel....

Dressing up in old Salvation Army clothes and playing the flute while standing on one leg is unique- not to mention everything else Tull did onstange. Dressing up in a red dress or flower costume is just plain weird (but entertaining nonetheless).

Ooh, good movie. Too bad he's in only three scenes.
