I've been searching through my record collection and the Prog Archives, and truly believe there are some serious omissions here and therefore recommend their inclusion asap: Touch see what I've already written about this: http://ghostland.com/ghostland/editorials.asp?ID=1 and for an alternative viewpoint: http://www.furious.com/perfect/touch.html T2 a band with a 21 year gap between their 1st and 2nd albums Polysoft, a sort of one-off Soft Machine tribute band, see: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000093U3R/202-3195 767-9413465 Wishbone Ash, if only for their prog Argus and Pilgrimage albums Obscured By Clouds NW USA Floyd-influenced band Alkemy Addison Project Martin Maheux i.e. three bands released through Unicorn Records, mixing prog and jazz rock Jens Johansson Master keyboardist and possibly the best around at the moment; worked with metal proggers Stratavarious, with Mastermind, Jonas Hellborg, Yngwie Malmsteen and released several solo albums (e.g. Heavy Machinery with Holdsworth and Fission with Shawn Lane/Mike Stern, plus one whose title suffers from my Swedish being so lacking, all I can remember is the loose English translation: Naked Two-footed Bird) Tempest (the early 70's British band) High Tide Gunesh the only Turkmanistani prog group??!! Collegium Muscium/Marian Varga Kraan Kennedy Underground Railroad Bill Pohl Stomu Yamash'Ta (Red Buddah Theatre, East Wind, etc) Suntreader Brand X precursor Gary Boyle Hugh Hopper Hugh Score (Caveman Hughscore) Guy LaBlanc Mike & The Mechanics Mike Rutherford His Small day's Creep was so much more interesting than what Genesis was releasing at the time IMHO Eddie Jobson/Zinc Donnamatrix

In The Heath Of The Moment......... Velvetclown, you need a post graduate course in punning, e.g. 6 hours of Monty Python videos OR some of those BBC Radio Comedy cassettes e.g. I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue
And come on, how about some support for Mr Johansson. BTW what do you make of EST - a professional musician, friend of Isaldurs Bane and moonlights in a Malmo record store, tells me EST came into that store before a gig and bought allsort of albums, including a few prog titles. Does it show in their music? |

Jens Johansson is a true keyboard genius. I heard him play on Andy West's RAMA and on one of Benny Jansson's (a good Holdsworth clone) album. He has developed a style of his own and is very virtuosic. I agree with you about Mike's "Smallcreep's day". Everything is good in this semi-concept album : drums played by the fantastic Simon Philipps, the synths played by Anthony Phillips, the vocals sung by Noel McKenna (is it the same who produced Tori Amos' "Little earthquakes"). |
