Topic: The Greatest ever Posted: April 05 2005 at 13:39 |
Since the release of Images and Words DT has been the pioneers of NEO PROG ROCK/METAL....but can they be the greatest.I think they can.....Petrucci,Portnoy and Rudess extract incredible feel from every song, especially Petrucci..Rudess isint far behind...and Portnoy is alredy the best ever.John Myung deserves special mention here....for he can outpace most guitarists with thoseincredible fingers and manages to outshine Geddy Lee and King Crimson`s bassists...previously the best with almost laughable alacrity. If they have a stumbling block, its the vocalist.Though Labrie is excellent by most standards,he just isint good enough for DT.Though a good studio artist, his live performances range from good to absolutely horrific. He needs to be more consistent.Other than that...there is nothing to stop this long island fivesome.

Antisilence,
I really think you should listen to a lot more prog before creating a ludicrous poll like this. Your love affair with DT has obviously clouded your mind to the point of near-insanity. I saw DT open for Yes and while I thought they were darn good, listening to what followed really put their rather limited range of sound into true perspective. Yes blew them away.

King Crimson will keep the title of the best band in the history of prog music forever.
Also, I think that DT's best days are over, although the band's members are still doing great.

they are a great band but not that great there are lots of others who are better for that title. IMO think next time before doing a useless poll!

Regressive Mental.
Not even remotely close, & define "best," please.
Methinks I detect a pre-adult....

I wouldn't even put DT on the top of the third tier of prog.
If you want them to be the best in SOME category, stick with METAL. Don't put Captain Crunch in my Cheerios.
