The former and latter "eras" you have listed there aren't accurate representations of the group and any particular time. Between ITCOTKC and Islands there were numerous personnel changes. The same goes for the 90's and beyond.

My favorite era has been between Larks' and Red where the group's core consisted of Wetton, Bruford, and Fripp.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement...  While I voted for the 70s, my favorite period was LARKS to RED.  I feel that it's a perfect compromise between the melodic pleasures of their earlier material and the abrasive experimentation of a good portion of their 90s albums.

I only know early seventies and early eighties, like both era's, but prefer the early seventies.

The 80s.

The 70s line-up was really good, and what they produced was good quality music. But, the 80s band was just better. Perhaps its mainly for personal reasons, but i must say it.

Ah now, I have just recently got into KC and love 'Larks Tongue' from the 70's and Thrak from the 90's and favourite at the moment is Discipline from the 80's BUT all that could change cos today I recieved a copy of Islands

I honestly think KC gets better and better.  The Power To Believe is amazing!!!

My favorite material however is 60's - 70's. 

P.S. you should have seperated ITCOTCK-Earthbound and Larks'-USA, I think that would be fair to the style of both lineups.

Actually, I think further division is really necessary:

ITCOTCK & ITWOP (Epitaph)

Lizard, Islands, Earthbound (Ladies of the Road)

Larks', Starless, Red, USA (Nightwatch, Great Deceiver)

This would be fair to all three lineups

Right on man! This combo was the best, though ITCHCOCK was pretty cool.

The era from ITCOTCK through to RED - band line-ups obviously did change during this time. IMO this was the best era of King Crimson - the group's classic era.

Like I said in the Top 5 favourite Crimson album post, I started on the earliest Crimson and am therefore biased. But I really like it all.
