Topic: Televators vs Copernicus Posted: July 16 2013 at 02:38 |
I like Copernicus, though it's probably my least favorite track on the album. As for Televators, I'm really not the biggest fan of it, I much more prefer The Widow, and Vermicide when on the topic of straight forward TMV songs.
I guess I'll go with Televators just cause it was on the better album, but really, TMV did better imo

Televators,
The best of the relatively "straight" TMV tracks

Agreed.
Cedric's voices is brilliant here. Plus the percussion and Omar's beautiful electric and acoustic work is more captivating than the Octahedron song. Though i'm not one to think Octahedron is a bad album. The Mars Volta have none of those.

Copernicus for sure. It's the best track on that album and reaches an emotional peak like no other song does in the band's entire output IMO. The lyrics, the atmosphere, the rise and fall in moods... it's simply beautiful. Televators isn't bad, just not as good.

I find Copernicus to be a little more interesting, with its touching melody, post/mathy guitar part, and electric drum breakdown. I suppose you could say that it does go on for a while but I think it's a strong enough song to sustain it's length. Plus, the lyrics are great. Octahedron is my favorite album ever.

I was just listening to Octahedron, and realised that these two songs by The Mars Volta share some stuff in common. They're both 2nd last on the albums that they appear on, they are around the same length (about a minute apart) and both feature the more mellow and beautiful side of TMV. Which song do you prefer?
