Well, after listening Radiohead's OK computer I accept, that Coldplay might be not proggie enough to be prog *shrug and sigh*

But I still think they make really nice music which might be at least something like Prog-POP.

Doesn't mean progressive to be different? And at least they are different than the whole boy/girlgroup/britney/pseudosoulwhinerstuff... and I am glad when I hear them in the radio, because I'm sick and tired of those nurseryschoolpunks and discochicks.

On normal radio you never find something like www.deliciousagony.com

No, it seems that more and more bands are being classifyed a prog, I think some bands shouldn't be here.

I just watched Coldplay on a Tee Vee concert. If that's prog, I'm gonna grow a beard and join the Taliban.

Coldplay is probably one of the best, or at least most interesting options to look for in mainstream music today. Even their first album, "Parachutes" had some kind of 'dark' aura that maybe got lost in the next records. But again, they are not progressive at all and thus they shouldn't be included here. I think that this is one of the cases when you can say a band is not progressive. There are other more difficult cases like Radiohead or Muse, but in the case of Coldplay the thing is clear.

Then you HAVE TO check out Elbow (if you haven't yet), their "Scattered Black and Whites" sounds like the little bro of CC and with Guy Garvey's voice it gets very gabrielic too

I do like Coldplay (and I am 37 and can play inside my head the whole "Gates of Delirium" to avoid the believe that I am too dull for "real" prog)

Well, I don't know Radiohead (yet) so I am not sure what makes a band "prog" in your eyes.

I can't help the feeling most people dislike Coldplay only because they are really successful

Someone hinted Pink Floyd. I hint them too. But before the "Coldplay is f...ing pop-Folks" get a heartattack leave them out

If we are at least allowed to talk about them on the non-prog part or whereever...

I hate you all that say Coldplay suck! They don't suck, I love Coldplay. It's just sort of spacey music. They're not prog, no not at all.

GREAT BAND!!

not prog...at all

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Hey,come on..They've got nothing to do with them...Coldplay is not a band based on the beauty of each member...They are focused on the music..And they've done some great albums too...Anyway,this may be my opinion. But i 'm sure that many agree with me...

Let´s add Coldplay like a Prog-pop band. There´s "new age-prog" with vangelis. I see canterbury´s classic rock too. I see phsiquedelic prog....there are so many pseudo prog bands that coldplay should be awarded a new prog label; PROG-POP. Just for that piano and drum intro in "clocks", pure beauty.

I'm the same way, when my brain hurts from complicated music, sometimes I sit back and enjoy a nice slice of the mass-marketed talentless drivel known as Rammstein. I don't pretend they're a mature band..

You know. I used to feel the same thing about pop. ..Now I don´t consider making good and catchy pop is a proof of lack of talent. At all.

If that was true, The Beatles would have to be considered talentless. And They wrote and performed beautiful, exciting and very interesting music. Pop music that was nowhere near of being talentless. "Elenor rigby" could be considered very simple and whatever you might say. Still, it required of a lot of talent to make it that enjoyable. The same I could say about dozens of pop songs of the 80´s which I love.

Pop and prog are just different, and they are consumed in different ways. Both enjoyable as they are and for what they are. Some of us may find more pleasure listening to music when it is prog, but that doesn´t necesarily make the music better. Better for what?. Would a christmas song be crap just for not being Prog?. Would you sing "Locomotive Breath" in front of the neighbor´s door. ?
