Topic: Rediscovered - Hounds Of Love........ Posted: July 12 2005 at 17:32 |
Actually, Kate Bush ought to be included in the archives if for no
other reason than only she could have male voices doing donkey
impressions and not only get away with it not sounding absurd but
actually make it sound impressive and kinda intimidating.

Well, what you consider prog rock and what I consider prog rock may
well be entirely different. Not an unusual occurence, I see, having
read through a few threads here now. ;)

Kate Bush creates intelligent, cultured, artisitic, highly original pop
music, but lacks the rock element necessary to classify her as prog, in
my opinion.
And agreed with Snow Dog about the imaginative use of her voice - reminds me somewhat of Peter Gabriel.

I hear strong elements of Japan in some of the more laid back/ambient moments of that album. It's a woderful record but it sure as sh*t aint prog.

Hounds Of Love is a superb album,...actually her first 5 are all excellent, but HOL is her most interesting and most complete album IMO.She uses electronics to a much greater extent and along with the conceptual appraoch of the Ninth Wave she comes very close to prog if not right on top of it.

I'm not sure what exactly it is, but Kate Bush's work is great music.

^ As Politician says The Dreaming is a very interesting album, with very imaginitive use of vocals!

All of KATE BUSH's work is very interesting and accomplished, although
"Hounds Of Love" (whilst certainly her most progressive album) is
probably my least favourite of her works. I much prefer its predecessor
"The Dreaming" (1982), which explores many of the same ideas in a much
more experimental context, although to these ears her debut "The Kick
Inside" (1978) remains her finest hour - an unsung classic of acid-folk.

Can this be classified as Prog or just sophisticated 80s pop?
Dug this out on vinyl a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed listening to it
again. I managed to get it on CD this week for £3 ($5). Gotta say it's far
better than i remember it being on release. Maybe i can appreciate it more
than when i was 15. Very well produced and Kate does sing very well.
To my ears i can hear Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel and Floyd.
