Great list. Thanks. How strange. I was just looking up Pazop's Psychillis Of A Lunatic Genius and reading that the remastered version was on MALS and then i jumped to this forum and found this. Whoah!~

I know the MALS owner in person and I can tell the label's work is about bringing obscure quality music to prog fans, not about making long buck (or Russian rouble). I believe mentioned issiues of "unauthorized releases" are rather a result of misunerstanding, the label has nothing to do with piracy.

I'm more windy than winter actually, but besides that....most of the catalog numbers was pulled from the old MALS website, supplemented by a few missing ones I googled if I recall correctly. Some come from CDs sent to me for review.

I cannot vouch for the entire list to be totally accurate, as the human factor obviously is at play for all digital information - the good, old sh*t in is sh*t out. If there are possible inaccuracies please let know, and I'll see what I can do to check them out.

The list of MALS releases (above) is very interesting and useful, as are the comments that follow the list. My understanding of the MALS label is that the company licenses music for the Russian market from other labels or artists, either for reissue (like their apparent arrangements with Musea), and/or for new release (such as Big Big Train, as well as Phideaux (above)). As another poster mentioned, they seem to have a good reputation for quality and legality (although the comments from Big Boss at ProgRock and Guy Manning that there may be unauthorized releases from MALS, make me wonder whether MALS sometimes engages in sketchy licensing practices, or whether there may be some releases bearing the MALS logo that have not actually been released on or authorized by MALS!?).

I was wondering where Winterhawk got the then-current list of MALS releases found above. I couldn't find a "discography" of releases on MALS' own website (although much, though not all, of the MALS site seems to be in Russian only), and there are a few catalog numbers on Discogs' MALS label listing that differ slightly from the listing above. I'm just trying to make sure that the few MALS label CDs I do have are not actually bootlegs of otherwise legitimate releases on the MALS label.

Thanks,

Walter

That would be delightful, and especially as coming from an infocat!  But, please, list us only in the Russian section!

I don't believe MALS releases illegal copies. The label has a good reputation and makes its best to promote obscure Russian and foreign prog artists. I know it's more about music, not about money.

I think artists involved can solve all problems by contacting MALS Records..

Hmmm, then at least some of those albums were issued under an agreement. The list opening this thread is a release history and not a list of currently available catalogue items, just to stress that point ;-)
