Florian Schnneider (Kraftwerk). Oh, don't shoot me... try to listen the first albums - 'Ruckzuck' and 'Tongebirge' are real classics... and don't tell me it's not prog!!

Oohh that's a tough one. Anderson, I'd say, followed by McDonald.

I definitely respect your point of view. Still for me, Andy Latimer.

My vote goes to.. Ian Anderson. Only for his playing on Uriah Heep - Acoustically Driven. I have to say that I really donīt like Jethro Tull (sorry, too much folk for me) but what he was able to add to some songs of the aforementioned album...impressive.

Van leer and Latimer are also very good but you can hear that the flute isnīt their main instrument.

I agree! I saw Caravan perform at the Isle Of Wight Festival a couple of weeks ago and they were excellent and IMO blew every other band off the stage. Geoff's flute playing was outstanding (and so was his spoon playing )

I love the melodic sound of Latimer, but my vote goes to Anderson, impressive work.

IDK, Ian Anderson is a very good acoustic guitarist

As much as I like Andy Latimer, Peter Gabriel and Angela Goldthorpe (Mostly Autumn) my vote goes to Ian Anderson.

Mel Collins deserves to be listed too.  (But speaking of "best flutists" in general, what about 'classical' names like Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway. Maybe the real question behind this poll is, in which prog bands you enjoy the flute most, and Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull is a clear winner to me too - technically he's hardly the best flutist in the world.)
