Great post Mick, but now I'm left wondering, if Yes is merely a blowjob, which group would be actual sex?
Also I'd go for the shotgun, it's faster and at least you've got a couple seconds to enjoy the image of a beautiful woman deftly wielding a phallic death machine. On the other hand, at least the redhead is touching your dick...

Can I opt for the redhead to shove my dick into the shotgun of the republican? (These are the questions that really matter) | ELP is to mick what sex is to man of course.

ahhhh... I love these kinds of thread wrecks... who was the better band..... Yes or Rush. Let me introduce our resident Noble Lauriet of Internet Posting to explain just why they are... let me introduce... Mad Mick... live from his dining room table at the Palazzo di Prog. thanks Mike... so who to approach a question with seemingly NO answer... one has to take it from the nebulous.. to the practical. so we'll rephrase this in terms we ALL can understand. Ask yourself... which is better .. between the choice between a blow job and having your dick stuck into a meatgrinder by a vengeful redhead... the answer is obvious.. how so? For you will find scores of websites and men that sing the virtues of a well done.. well. .that is optional.. of ANY blow job. You will find odes to its greatness... in concerts, while driving.. in bathrooms... under your desk... it is understood to be much better than having some soul sucking redhead grind your manhood into nothingness. Yet... there are some.... TWISTED souls that actually are into that sh*t man.. and I have heard of the sites that exist which fanboys loudly proclaim it better. Yet opinions are like a****les. Ask any of them to provide the burden of proof to sway the believers of what seems to be the obvious truth. They can't.. that is the Yes-Rush who is better debate... in terms we all can understand. Now a better comparison might have been... shotgun blast to the groin by a gun toted hot Republican MILF... or having your junk shreaded by a evil satantic redhead... Rush v. Kansas...

This is your opinion, that was mine. I was basing my opinion on the fact that Rush were heavily influenced by Yes and that Yes is the older, more highly reputed band.

Two of my top bands in all times.... two great bands and two very different styles of music... YES is a symphonic prog masters.. RUSH is a heavy-prog masters ! YES have songs like "South Side of The Sky", "Heart of The Sunrise" and "Machine Messiah" which are very near of heavy-prog. RUSH have songs like "La Villa Strangiatto", "Jacob's Ladder" and "Cygnus X-1- Book two" with slightly symphonic-prog hints . However, YES seems to me more efficient when "walks" into heavy-prog than RUSH's into symphhonic-prog. Only by this reason my vote goes to YES !

In terms of PROG ROCK Yes is easily better, because no Rush album can touch Yes album Close to the Edge when it comes to prog rock. In terms of general ROCK music Rush is better. So anyway my pick is Rush, because I like them more.

Another (personal) point of contrast: I have seen Rush only the once, on the Power Windows tour on the back of their early 80s output. It was one of the most boring concerts I have ever been to (along with Dire Straits) and a huge disappointment. By contrast, the last time I saw Yes was the Union tour, and that was thoroughly enjoyable (despite the disappointing album - which they hardly touched live...)

Counterparts is probably my favourite Rush album of all time. Not a weak track on it, unlike most of the albums after it (and that includes the much-lauded Clockwork Angels, which in my opinion loses steam big time in its second half).
That said, I think 70's Yes smoke most other prog bands. A trio of albums such as The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge would be enough to put them on a pedestal. Rush - as much as I love them - never produced anything comparable (in terms of both quality and influence) in their whole career.
