Kirklott - I have Serpents in Camouflage but I got that a few months after buying Raising the Stones. I love both albums but since my first buy was RtS, I wasn't comparing it to SiC. I don't know if you have Raising the Stones but if not, I would suggest you get it. I like it anyway. It's more challenging than Serpents and will take more listens to really get into it but I love it.

The Watch huh? I will have to check them out! Thanks!

If you like Genesis sounding bands from the 70's, Neuschwanstein is a gem of an album.

I think I am somwhere in between Manunkind and MikeEnRegalia with how I feel about the songs.

I agree that there is not superb direction in the Citizen Cain song but I don't find as many problems with it.  I like the changes in the moods during the song but it could have been better. The first "chorus" (where he sings "couldn't I dance...")  gets a bit too repetitive for me though if it would have been shortened or had a larger break in the middle of it would have been very nice. I don't have a problem with the recording of it though.

I pretty much agree that Il Funeralle Della Luna is fairly unspectacular but I think it's because the music feels forced - almost like they tried to sound a certain way instead of playing from their hearts. I kind of like the cheesy synth solo at the end of the song though it is fairly pointless but played well. My favorite part is the hard prog (prog metal?) sounding part after the initial acoustic intro. It adds a heaviness that the song needed.

Dalt99: do you have "Serpents in Camouflage" and "Somewhere But Yesterday."?

They are AWESOME. From what I've heard and reviews I've read, the other 3 Cain albums aren't so good.

Also check out The Watch from Italy. www.thewatch.it

Awesome Genesis-style prog

Citizen Cain, no contest.

I don't agree there is no direction in that song. It may be a little disjointed, true, but not enough to make it directionless. Not very original, but colourful nevertheless. Clearly the winner, IMO.

The other song is simply unspectacular, apart from the guitar solo at around six minutes. Trying too hard to be lyrical and ultimately falling short. A pleasant enough listen, little more.

The only choices I had was that song or the one from their latest album. Anyway, it's a battle of songs not bands. If you don't like the song, that's fine. Tell me why.  Vote for the other song if you like it better. Did you listen to the other song??

I agree that Citizen Cain were a great band in the 90's.  My first album I got of theirs was Raising the Stones so since I wasn't used to how they sounded on their first albums, I wasn't comparing it to those albums. I really like the album (though Ghost Dance isn't good) and think it rivals the first two though it sounds a bit different. I am sorry you don't like it.

Dalt99, if you're going to post Citizen Cain tracks, post tracks that DON'T suck.

Citizen Cain was the best prog band of the 90s, specifically their albums "Serpents in Camouflage" and "Somewhere But Yesterday." After that, they lost members and went downhill fast.

If you like Gabriel-era Genesis albums, you'll love those Cain albums. Check out the reviews here on ProgArchives.

Il Funeralle Della Luna: I like the acoustic parts, although the vocals are a bit over the top (trying too hard to sound sad). The middle section has some poor drum timing, reminiscent of Payne's Gray. I don't want to diss the drummer here, it's just that I'm sensitive to timing problems. The synth solo at the end is quite cheesy and quite frankly: pointless.

Silently Seeking Euridice: Better musicianship, but as a whole also a little pointless and no direction is apparent (what do the try to tell us, what's the message). The last two minutes are the best. The vocals are poorly recorded and there's too much reverb throughout.

I think the second track is better, but that's after a single listening session. I'll post some further comments, if I change my mind (you never know). But in most cases, there's a reason that a band doesn't have huge commercial success. Payne's Gray, Power Of Omens, ... these bands have interesting ideas, but their albums are flawed in some aspects, making it hard for me to listen to them - I cannot ignore things that put me off.

It seems that nobody here at this site is willing to listen to anything besides the popular bands such as Spocks Beard, Genesis, Mars Volta, Dream Theater, etc.

Part of the reason for sites such as this (I thought) was to discover bands and music that are and are NOT sold at your local store. You can discover bands like Spocks Beard at All Music.com if you want. It sure would be nice once and awhile to discuss (and listen to) bands other than the ones on the top 100 list.

There are so many good bands, that just don't have the marketing of the top name bands, that go unnoticed. But I understand it - it takes time to research and look into these bands unlike the popular ones.

What's the deal? Is nobody willing to listen to new music or is it that you aren't in a position to listen to music at the moment?
