It took me a second but, yeah, they do use a similar run, in the same key too if I'm not mistaken.  After the initial run though, Metropolis takes off in an entirely different direction.  Even in the during the similar bit, the energy level of Metropolis is different, the run in Metropolis is very anticipatory while the Heartattack in a Lay Bby run is much more melancholic.

@ Tuxon - Heartattack in a Lay By is a Porcupine Tree song off of In Absentia.

The beginning of the two songs are so simlilar! Anyone noticed this yet?
