This Los Angeles professional guitarist has met Mr.Baker a few times at the Anaheim NAMM shows throughout the years...
A very kind,friendly gent indeed;and his memory was fully intact and Mr.Baker had the ability to store,retain;and recall information of his life's experiences.

That is really weird ... his drumming is actually very mechanical ... and good! I would suspect instead that he is/was just too drugged up to care or know the difference.
 
Check out his work with Hawkwind, and he has said it was the worst little rock'n'roll band in the world, but by comparison, when you listen to the album, his drumming is highly defined and played, and looks much more composed and with "complete" than other Hawkwind material. It also gave the album a much cleaner sound all around -- which has got to be the influence of Ginger's! The album comes off very well rehearsed and played ... compared to many other Hawkwind albums that feel a little more on the free side with less rehearsing and a lot more emotion content to carry the work. I still think "Leviation" is an excellent, and probably the difference is that it is quite well defined and recorded.
 
Confession time. I bought the 12" single Night of the hawk after Tommy Vance played it on rock Friday night rock show many yearsa go, believing the drumming was by Mr Baker. Eventually I got the CD of the album of the same name, and was some what shocked to discover from the liner notes that whilst Baker  plays on the album, he wasn't on that track.  And there was me thinking Baker had a very distinctive style and sound and so could be ID-ed from those aspects: which is certainly the case for a lot of tracks on PIL's Compact album..

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Classic Rock's interview/article/review of Ginger Baker at the time of the book's publishing date, was titled Whinger Baker, which a rather good two word summary of the autobiography. Just picked up the recently published (and authorised) Jack Bruce biography Composing Himself. Only read the opening 15 pages but I get the sense of a much better written book - also note Ginger Baker was one of the very few who did not contribute, while there are a few photos of the Baker & Bruce families together in the 80's. BTW HMV are discounting £3 off the RRP at the moment on Bruce's biog.

i don't blame clapton for saying he'd never play another gig with baker and bruce,they are total twits!
i doubt ginger baker remembers enough to write a boook on it all,unless he kept a journal and he does'nt seem organized enough to have done that.

Money talks. It's hard to imagine any relationship being as bad as it is between the members of The Police. When the checkbook opened up they put there differences aside for the big payday.

Even Letterman got Leno to make a Super Bowl commercial with him. There was talk that Letterman wanted Conan to be on that commercial as well. Imagine how it would have been with Conan there. Leno and Letterman haven't been on the same stage together since 1990, but I digress.

Just attacking Ginger Baker's recently published autobiography Hellraiser -and it looks like Baker wrote this with only a little help from one of his daughters.The style is plain,  straightforward, no-nonsense and candid - especially his drug intake followed by his sex life and lack of  patience. He corrects several "errors" he's found in Clapton's ghost-written auto-biog. Considering we have been long forewarned of Jack Bruce's biog is to be published in the near future, I wonder if Baker felt the need to get in first? We get some of the reasons for the love/hate relationship between Bruce & Baker, but as yet I'm still wondering why  they have returned to play music together time after time since the mid 60's.

 A full review in the near future.
