Thanks! Just seeing your handle here reminded me of that band and how much I enjoy their jazzy prog. I have Lahto Matkalle on my iPod, but I need to add the self-titled debut. Good stuff...

Wow!!   A new member who's heard Finnforest! Shocked  That doesn't happen every day. Clap

Welcome Chris, I live just outside of Philly and yes i can vouch for the roast pork's awesomeness.

Do check out some more obscure Canterbury like Moving Gelatine Plates if you haven't already.

Might also try dipping your toe into some RIO like Henry Cow's debut or Samla Mammas Manna.

Thanks!

I have Genius Hans and enjoy it quite a bit, as well as Matild and Klossa Kapitatet. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy Samla's whimsy, however. I've approached Leg End a few times and have always found it to be too avant-garde for my liking, but I'm due to give it another spin and see.

At the risk of turning a newbie thread into an NFL thread, Go Eagles!

Well you certainly don't sound like a prog newbie!  LOL
Great to have you around.  Might as well put on a prog album....we ain't going anywhere in this storm.

There is an NFL thread in Just For Fun where you can proclaim your love for all things Eagles.  Wink  Game got moved to 4:15 tomorrow, I believe.

Oh, far from a prog newbie, but for sure a site newbie.

I'm currently listening to Arena - The Visitor, as I'm trying to get into some newer stuff that gets high ratings here. It's....not as prog as I would like, although it seems to have potential.

I queued up By-Tor and the Snow Dog earlier in honor of the weather. Maybe I should put together a prog snow playlist... LOL

To mitigate this risk, I am going to add how I put Lady Lake back into iTunes today. I have to say that the singer's tone takes a little getting used to, but the material is top notch. I especially like Social Embarrassment.

We are, indeed, a town that loves its meats and its frustration over its sports teams (until recently, that is...)

actually that's just about right

..and I don't believe in cheezewhiz on a Philly either, my personal favorite is white American cheese but I know Provolone is also very popular..I also take onions and sweet&hot peppers of course

If you ever make it back, I recommend the roast pork/broccoli rabe/provolone sandwich on a long roll. It's our attempt to add a little more class to the cheesesteak tradition.

Much better than fast food!

Hello to all!

I tend toward Symphonic prog, the Canterbury sound, and more jazz fusion sounds. Lately, I've been trying to listen to more modern prog such as Arena, Porcupine Tree, and Transatlantic. Some of my faves include (in no particular order): The Yes Album (Yes), Seconds Out (Genesis), The Rotters Club (Hatfield and the North), You (Gong), Crafty Hands (Happy The Man), Space Shanty (Khan), Forse le lucciole non si amano piu (Locanda delle Fate), Erpland (Ozrics), and A Farewell to Kings (Rush).

Judging by that list I'd recommend Caravan, Camel, the whole Radio Gnome Quatrology by Gong, Matching Mole, National Health, Spock's Beard, Flash, Gnidrolog and Gentle Giant.

Thanks for the recommendations! I stopped exploring Caravan after Girls Who Grow Plump, so I may need to check into their later stuff. I stopped exploring Camel after Raindances, so the same applies. I like Gong a lot and even have some of their fusion recordings. Matching Mole is on my 'revisit' list; I've given the Little Red Record several spins and it never spoke to me. National Health rules. I like V by SB a lot and need to check out more from them. I have Gnidrolog and need to revisit that. And Gentle Giant...a real mood thing with me. I find them either genius or too difficult, depending on the day.
