I am trying to become as avant-garde as possible, but I'm not sure I can support this. Just because you're banging on a violin doesn't make it clever...

You raise a good point. Someone should ask Wynton about it. |

But it's also John Coltrane, and is it possible for people to say no to John Coltrane?
Borrow Ken Burns Jazz from the library, 90% of it is slow panning over photographs of the musicians while listening to part of a song, which then cuts to somebody talking about how awesome and revolutionary it is, or sometimes saying that over the music itself. I am, however, very impressed that they managed to scan those photographs into such high resolution. |

Of course you would, I'm wondering what Wynton would think. Edited by Henry Plainview - December 27 2009 at 22:35 |

Because it doesn't sound like Miles Davis.
I wonder, is Ascension really jazz? Ken Burns, who is almost as much a purist as Wynton, didn't mention it, but then again I couldn't sit through all of a single episode of Jazz yet so maybe I just mentioned it.
I read somewhere that Wynton said Masada was good, but not jazz, so maybe he's not as bad as I think. Edited by Henry Plainview - December 27 2009 at 22:26 |

Jazz purists (or, similarly, prog or other music purists) make me so angry sometimes. It's just closed-mindedness. |

I'm not that big of a fan (I don't even own it), but I just find it weird that you hate it.

Jazz purists make me want to go on murderous rampages sometimes. I mean, I agree most of the best stuff was from before 1970, but c'mon. Jazz didn't die after that period in time. |
