best Tangerine Dream era

   I voted for the Virgin years as most of the TD albums i own and love are from that era, I never liked Electronic Meditation much so ive always avoided any of those early albums.
I gave up buying any further albums after they released Exit and Thief as i found them disappointing.

	Its pretty hard to choose Phillippe, of course the albums like Force Majeure, Green Deserts, and Stratosfear are some of my favorite TD albums. So this Virgin Era woould be my first choise. The following era has Exit, Poland, Underwater Sunlight, Le Parc, Live Miles and Pergamon and IMHO have the same "weight" as the above mentioned. The last period has The Tyranny of Beauty, Goblins Club, Ambient Monkeys, Mars Polaris (ost), Seven Letters from Tibet and Inferno, which are absolutely fantastic albums. Since I do have nearly all TD recordings on original CD's, I do listen to nearly all of the eras on a aweekly basis, and I cant believe that TDs music can be divided into the recording company eras. If you divide TD's music into eras, it should be according to the diferent line-ups and then we could discuss which member had what kind of contribution. __________ Lunar.

	However if I place Electronic Meditations in the Pink Years , I think that Green Desert from that era (73) under its present form , it should be Virgin Years era.

	For people not being able to cope with such demanding music (if not on sheer musical understanding/knowledge than at least in the attention dept - as I said no melody and rythms) I understand why some people can say it is boring! I play Zeit and Atem once every two years (sometimes I take it off after two minutes because I realize I am not up to that frame of mind) and generally stop before it is over.

	the pink albums are actually very demanding, just listen to zeit and try to get the hang of it. but dear god, they're not boring, how can anyone say that..

	i do not think the pink years are too demanding or difficult for people: i rather think theyv are too minimalist and boring to be appreciated.

	The pink years are generally much more demanding on the listener and the music developped lacks clear structures and rythmic patterns on both Zeit and Atem. However my fave TD album ever is Electronics Meditations and Alpha Centauri is in my TD top 5 also. Pink years is aesthically (and maybe artistically also) much superior Virgin years but really too difficult for most people (and a lot of symphonic minded progheads). The music developped in Ricochet , Stratosfear , Force Majeure etc. is very ultra-symphonic in an electronic sort of way. This ensures the win in your poll.

	I listened to Zeit this weekend while trying to figure out ActionScript. Definetly helped with the concentration. I've got Alpha on vinyl but not a favourite i'm afraid. I do however have quite a few early Klaus Shulze albums that i listen to regularly.

	I would like to know if people who vote for the Virgin years have ever heard albums such as Alpha Centauri, Atem, Zeit (from the Pink years)??

	Virgin Years without a doubt. Rubycon is my favourite TD album. The last decade has seen TD beacme purveyors of elevator music. How about a poll for Vangelis based around the same idea.

	The Virgin Years is the obvious answer (mine too) but this is a close call with the Pink Years (as with Picasso's Pink era)

	1975 - 1987 (Ricochet to Tyger) .Everything else pretty much bores me to death. It wasn't until 1975 that they started making music with some compositional quality.After Tyger they ran out of ideas and got increasingly tedious.

	Agreed: Virgin years. I love Cyclone too! That and Force Majeure are enough evidence for me. But it's really good to have all those DIFFERENT TD eras.

	The Virgin Years for me - I love 'Cyclone' (yes, even the cheesy vocals), Phaedra is wonderful, and despite the poor recording quality, 'Encore' has to be my favorite of their many live albums (Mellotrons a go-go!).

	I agree with you up to a certain point, I had better to make a poll referring to the different line up...but it could be very long my favorite period is off course the pink years!!! all albums released in those early years are classic!!!

	i always found this classification a bit ridiculous, since the schmoelling's period, starting from 1980 (tangram) to 1985 (le parc), is the most definite era.

	I don't know too much TD, but always quite enjoyed 'Ricochet', which I was lent by an older friend, so I'll vote for the Virgin years.
