Prog, genre of the week on Norwegian radioshow

As stated in the thread title, this week prog has been the genre of the week on a Norwegian radioshow named Sexy. The hosts do a bit of research, talk a bit about the genre and play one track each day .
Due to the time constraints of a 1-hour radio programme however, they are unable to play any epics.

Starting out on Monday, they started out talking about 60's prog and the defining characteristics of prog rock in general. Track of the day was King Crimson's Cat Food. I was quite pleased, great way to start the week.

Tuesday, the guys moved on to the 70's. It's almost impossible to select just one track from the 70's, so I wasn't too surprised with the song they ended up playing, namely Pink Floyd's Brain Damage from DSOTM.
Great track, no doubt, and Floyd is one of my favourite bands, but I still felt that they could've been a bit more daring with their selection. Caravan, Gentle Giant, Camel, Genesis etc. all have a plethora of great tracks without being 20 minutes long. As an introduction to prog however, Floyd's perfect.

Wednesday, and they're up to the 80's. No surprise there either, the track of the day was Marillion. Contrary to my expectations (I was expecting Kayleigh), Market Square Heroes was the song being played. Great choice.

Thursday, and it's time for modern day prog. I was a bit disappointed to find out that they had picked Coheed&Cambria's Radio Bye Bye as their track of the day. Don't get me wrong, I quite like C&C but it's not the best example of modern prog. PT, Mastodon, Opeth, Riverside, Enslaved, Dream Theater etc. are all much better selections than C&C in my opinion.

Friday, and last day of prog on daytime radio. Today is dedicated to Norwegian prog. Airbag was the name of the band, and the track was called No Escape. Apparently they've recently released their debut album, but I was totally unfamiliar with them. They were obviously inspired by Floyd, but I also kept thinking Riverside without the metal whilst listening to the song. Decent, but nothing special.


And so the week of prog on radio comes to an end. It started out great with Crimson, continued with a safe bet in Floyd before another great day with Marillion. The last two days however, were slightly disappointing but at least some stuff got played that don't normally get airtime. I'm sure the guys did the best they could within the framework of a one-hour show.
