  • Ommadown - Mike Oldfield (he never could top this atmospheric album)
  • Up the downstair - Porcupine Tree or The sky moves...(atmospheric and psychedelic but simply great albums all the way)
  • Peter Gabriel 4 (also called as "security") that's what I call an atmospheric album even if it's not really progressive
  • Moonmadness or Raindances from Camel - you're floating in space after hearing this
  • Rain Tree Crow (the post Japan album)
  • Cyclone by Tangerine Dream (their only one I can really appreciate)
  • Wish you were here - P FL
  • Ocean or Dawn - Eloy

Meddle, Dark Side, Wywh and Animals are all tremedously good as ''Atmospheric'' works ( and not only ).

Oddly enough, Lark's Tongues in Aspic is pretty atmospheric to me, as well...

Tubular Bells, of course.

...Opeth, Damnation? It's atmospheric as hell, if what you want is a moody, dark atmosphere instead of the usual dreamy psychedelic one.

I can't really remember any more, but I'm willing to bet my left thumb that there's a load more I could mention.

After Crying - Megalázottak és Megszomorítottak
Such drama!

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn
Could've picked any one of his first few albums, but for me this is the cream of the crop.

Magma - MDK
Moodier than a chained-up bull that's had its teddy bear stolen.

Henry Cow - Unrest
Unsettling, more like! I love it.

Hatfield & The North - Self-titled
Beautiful melodies and muddled jazz wrapped up in a warm, mildly eccentric package that's ideal for late night headphone sessions. Marvellous.

5 very different albums that creat 5 very different atmospheres in expert fashion.

Genesis is one of my favorite bands, but when it comes to "atmospheric", I'm more inclined to think of Pink Floyd and Vangelis. The main question is: what is "atmospheric"? I get associations with spacey music, not hard rocking but more quiet, open music. I guess it's a confusing word.

Having said that, my top 3:

1. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

2. Vangelis - Antarctica

3. TD - Rubycon
