Hello,
Lately I've trying to find out some new bands so desperately, but unfortunately I can hardly get something what I really like. A huge amount of bands I find and listen to are defined as progressive metal / rock but is not exactly what I expect to hear. Maybe I just don't understand the progressive music nowadays :) For sure, I cannot agree with some definitions of bands, being defined as progressive metal.
Anyway, I would share some thoughts of what kind a music I really enjoy and I'm looking for. Years ago, the bands were Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, RJ Dio, Kansas. These days my kind of progressive music are bands like :
Ivanhoe - probably the best one I've heard so far, I cannot stop listening to them. Aggressive riffs, powerful bass and great vocals, amazing sound, masterpiece music for me.
Charisma - Side project of Ivanhoe's guitarist Achim Welsch and the bassist Solas with female vocals. Unique album.
Ark - Another great band with the great vocalist Jorn Lande.
Dream Theater - Although I must admit I am getting tottally dissappointed with them as they are getting more and more similar to Opeth's music. I hate that ...
I would mention of course Liquid Tension Experiment, maybe Treshold and Symphony X. Recently I made two new magnificient additions to my playlists ... two great progressive bands from Bulgaria. Check them if you don't know them :

I would highly appreciate if anyone can recommend bands like that having in mind I've been through the most famous music like Queensryche, Porcupine Tree, Fates of Warning, Pain of Salvation, Dreamscape, Rush, Riverside, Ayreon, Marillion.
Thank you in advance.
