I don't know if you want to to know how many times the aircraft above went usevivicable then myelf and Rick ( as in Wakeman ) would be able to relate. Ask Rick about unservicibility Not me he would probabily be the expert stotyeller in that respect.

I take your point on venue sizes for older material; however, in 1978 when they were still performing large chunks of the older albums, they were playing huge venues - they just changed the presentation - the songs themselves do work in large venues, it's just the intimate stage shows they used to play in the glory days would be completely lost in an enormodrome (which is where, face it, they'd have to play). The Milton Keynes reunion in 1983 was before an audience of (this is a guess btw) about 50/60,000; nothing post 1975 was played, yet they pulled it off because they adapted the show itself.
No - in my humble opinion & on the evidence of 'Seconds Out' & a recording I have of the 1978 Knebworth show (in front of over 100,000 people) the songs could work if (and unfortunately, this is a big if) they were played well, which on the evidence of the Rome film...
Of course - the absolute ideal would be to see the re-unified Genesis in a small 2/3,000 seat theatre, but that's never going to happen so for a recreation of the glory days, I'll just wait for The Musical Box to come round again - great band, great musicians, perfect recreation of pre-1975 Genesis (even the Mellotron broke down briefly when I saw them - how authentic is that? ) |
You know how many Wakeman eqiupmpent breadownds there were, Wow if you just read Grumpy Old Rock Star by Rick Wakeman and you'll prbablyy only get about a third of them.

Personally I think Peter Gabriel would be crazy to participate in a Genesis reunion. He's carved his own eclectic classy niche in prog rock and maybe because I grew up with Genesis I think he's outgrown that image. It would be embarrassing. Let that music remain classic by not trying to return to a place and time that they are not part of anymore.

Well..I was lucky enough to be at Milton keynes in 1982 and it was magical (I also remember Talk Talk being first on the bill and thinking they were really good while people at the front were throwing bottles at them!). After Pink Floyd at G8, I'll never say never, but It'll have to happen within the next five years ...I would walk over broken glass to be there...

Exactly.
| Collins is a damn good drummer and there he should have remained. He is monotoned and quite simply boring as a singer. His voice cannot change and is weak.Genesis died after Wind and Wuthering with the truly awful ' And then there were three' thereafter good ol' Phil took them down the road to pop dom. Genesis with Gabriel were icons of the Progressive halcyon age.As I have said on here years ago Collins is a little arse who had a different dream of where he was going. What a pity such talented musicians as Banks and Rutheford wanted to join in. Peter if you ever read sites like this stay clear of these three clowns who turned their backs on the music that made them.Quality is what matters, whether younger Genesis fans prefer the drivel that followed merely tellls me their knowledge of prog is zero.

I don't think it'll happen.
But even if it did.....quite honestly....i don't think Peter still holds his charisma from his Genesis days.It would be very strange to see he dressed as a flower today. Then again,it would be even stranger NOT to see him in his old costumes. As for Hackett,I'd bet he's still great.See classic Genesis again would surely be worth the ticket's price, but I think, today,I'd be more fond to see the Trick and Wind Genesis.

Amen to that.....The Geese And The Ghost...is indeed a album of great quallity.....And Wise After The Event Too.......and what a remaster...anyone fan of Genesis should indeed give this a firm try.
Its indeed interesting...why Anthony not...I think because he himself left...because he suffered from stage fear....so I think that playing in front of a large venue will not work for him, or perhaps they asume that....Don't know but its an interesting question......its a great guitarist......and it is the man behind Trespass and as I recently read..The Musical Box, which was already written mostly, before Hackett even joined, although it is not Hackett roaring guitarwork that makes this song mainly so amazing.

Hi,
Got to admit .... if they bring Hackett and then Gabriel ... will they actually consider Anthony Phillips?
He deserves it too! ... folks should give a listen (and acquire) to The Geese and the Ghost ....

Ha! I never read that! Pure stupidity though, Daryl's playing is competant but very normal, Steve Hackett is (at least to myself) on a higher pantheon of guitar gods! The big thing here that no-one seems to have bought up is that even if this did go ahead, could mere mortals like ourselves afford a ticket?

Hi,
I believe Steve Hackett has stated that he would go if Peter Gabriel also goes ...
Dream on ... sometimes the life of a pop star and ego maniacs ... is a real drag.
Thx

Ditto to that NS. Like most prog fans, I either am or used to be a Genesis fan, and even though i don't listen to anything of theirs anymore, a full reunion would be something really quite special.

I'd totally starve for a month to see this - with or without Hackett, but with is obviously better. Even if they don't focus on The Lamb and earlier albums, just the prospect of seeing Gabriel with them makes me shiver in anticipation. If they DID focus on their prog stuff with a fully formed band, I'll start believing in ALL religions*. *Not that I'm even close to being an atheist now, though.

No comments about that Rome quote... ...I respect all of these "FARTS" whatever they decided to do with their music and those were, pardon, still are great musicians....I love every era of Genesis (still hate Abacab ) but all in all they're great.... . And by the way, I do prefer Gabriel era of course....
