Zonder for having the most unique playing style. I simply adore his work with Fates Warning, his drumming is very tasteful and very creative. Definitely among my most respected drummers, alongside Billy Cobham, Daniel Denis, Pierre Moerlen and the likes.. too bad he's so underappreciated among other prog-metal fans it seems.

At times Zonder's style reminds me of Neil Peart. Might be due to Terry Brown producing their albums. I haven't heard his work with Warlord, but I like the Slavior album too.

Out of the options it has to be Jason Rullo. I really can't see how folk can rate Portnoy as an amazing drummer. I suppose it's amazing that he has got any recognition at all. His snare drumming and naff use of cymbals ruins most of DTs excellent music.

Well I was listening to Jason Rullo carefully through head phones , his cymbal work is amazing and so is his sense of placement ... there is my vote .. that guy is something else. Zonder is class all the way as well and Portnoy always impresses me (except when he sings !) ... this is a close poll I think. whoever wins it probably deserves it

I'm surprised to note that Portnoy is currently last in this poll.
Hopefully this vote will help to reddress the situation .

I've heard mostly Portnoy out of the three. An album and a half of Rullo, and one or two songs of Zonder. I can't stand Portnoy for the most part, and Rullo is OK but didn't seem to be that impressive, but he wasn't as obnoxious as Porty so Rullo it is.

If I was to think Jason Rullo or Mark Zonder weren't in Mike Portnoy's league I never would have thought about creating such a poll (that's probably been done before anyway)
