I must admit, the thought of James Last doing an album of GYBE tunes is an intriguing one - Hansi meets Moya, anybody?

There was a rather good radio documentary last Saturday by Paul Gambaccini on the popoularity of German dance band leader James Last http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/radio4/int/-/radio/aod/radio4_aod.sh tml?radio4/nonstop_partypeople
I would have turned off in seconds but the mention of God Speed You Black Emperor by one of the interviewees!! Reference was to the folks who are into the blandness of last, quote ( along the lines of); "They are the sort of people who haven't the time to get into the complexities of GSYBE". From that point I had to listen further and I was amazed by some of the insightful comments made by writer, dj Paul Morley (sp??) about the nature of music and how it effects different people in different ways. In part, (but without mentioning prog rock at all), there was pretty good explaination why few people get into the comparative complexities of prog, and others will find it difficult. |
