I have heard of all of these, but, I think I might check out some of Neal Morse's solo stuff..

Also, Ziltoid is fantastic.

I really dislike Coheed and Cambria's vocalist's voice. So warbly.'

Also, Sieges Even's The Art of Navigating by the Stars is not a narrative concept album, nor is Fates Warning's A Pleasant Shade of Gray, at least from what I can tell.

Well here are some modern ones:
Coheed and Cambria: their albums all form a story together
The Dear Hunter: all of their albums form a story line, but so far only 2 acts of 6 have been released
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero: not prog but amazing for a modern (commercial) record
who hiccuped endlessly trying to giggle but wound up with a sob

Come on people, I know you can do better than this, I have heard most of this before, I need new stuff. Also, this decade, please, not that I don't like older stuff, but, I would prefer the stuff of today.

I'm sure its been mentioned, but I cant find it, DT's Metropollis 2000 Scenes From A Memory.

And seriously, check out Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth. Sure it has its cheesy moments, but overall, its an amazing album.

The Wall - Pink Floyd (obviousely)
In Absentia and Fear of a Blank Planet - Porcupine Tree (more the former, as it tells a direct story, Fear only observes general themes)

Checked this out, I am liking it, except for the narratives, the "actors" aren't that good.

While I am at it:  I mentioned Frameshift in my first post.  The creative mind behind Frameshift is Henning Pauly.  He has a solo album called 13 Days which is a concept album.  He also is the main cog behind the band Chain and they have two concept albums called ".exe" and "Reconstruct".  Probably worth checking at least one of these out and if you like it there is a good chance you might like all of them.

In addition, new supergroup, Amaran's Plight released an album in 2007 called Voices in the Light, which is also a concept album.

Not prog per se, but how about Magica from Dio.  It is a metal concept album from one of the best voices in heavy metal.

Also, ex-Dream Theater vocalist, Dominici, has released 2 of the 3 albums of his O3 Trilogy.  The first album is more him singing with acoustical instruments, whereas the 2nd album has more of a DT type feel to it.

And how could I forget Fates Warning's A Pleasant Shade of Grey.

Check out the live version of the Pretty Things/ S. F. Sorrow.  Narration is by Aurthur Brown.  This is the first rock opera.  Pete Townsend heard the album and this record was the inspiration for "Tommy."

Wait...wait...wait...Someone did a musical version of the Jules Verne classic?

Rick Wakeman did. I really like it, and its hard to describe it really. Its his band with an orchestra and choir.

Ghost Reveries is a great album, highly recommended... The growling vocals will never be my cup of tea either, but Åkerfeldt more than makes up for them with his fantastic 'clean' vocals.

Anyway, I'm not a Prog-Metal expert, so my recommendations will be more geared towards Prog Rock, or even Classic Rock. Talking of what, The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia are amongst the very first concept albums - without them there would probably be nothing like SfaM or Operation: Mindcrime. Then, of course, don't forget Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick (I am not a fan of A Passion Play though), and Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
Pain of Salvation - One Hour by the Concrete Lake, Perfect Element Pt. 1, Remedy Lane
Neal Morse - Testimony, One, ?, Sola Scriptura
Kevin Gilbert - The Shaming of the True
...

BTW: If you like you can help me compile a more complete list of concept albums here ... you just need to rate albums and tag them "concept" to get them on that list. As for the distinction of "narrative" concepts ... I'll think of a proper tag.Big%20smile

How can we forget Savatage? they are the masters of narrative concept albums
i would moslty recommend: Streets (A Rock Opera), Dead Winter Dead & The Wake of Magellan

& you can also check Trans-Siberian Orchestra

& Although it's not prog: you can check out "The Crimson Idol" album By W.A.S.P., it's a great narrative album...

Yep, Rick Wakeman. I just bought it on vinyl for a buck (or maybe 50 cents) and I've been meaning to listen to it. The reviews here make it sound cheesily awesome.

Haha ya don't worry about it, it's no big deal.

But I would highly recommend Ghost Reveries if you haven't heard it, that and Blackwater Park are among the few albums I consider true masterpieces (in metal).

I have Blackwater Park as well. I am not a big fan of Death Metal, so, Opeth is taking me a bit to get into, but, I will definitely get Ghost Reveries.

Hmm ya death metal can be hard to get into for sure, so I understand why it'd be hard to get into Opeth.  I always forget how long it took me to like them whenever I recommend them Confused.
