Well Logan, the list of friends is certainly impressive, it includes even Sun Ra....
As for the music: this is not exactly to my taste, but I can imagine playing it when trying to calm down and create a relaxed environment. There's a lot to listen to. |

Thanks for the responses. Well said Zapppa. From a traditional standpoint, I wouldn't consider it Prog. Oh heck, I'll go farther, I don't consider it Prog, but based on this music if there was an album I could potentially see it fitting in the archives based on these tracks (but not based on the influences). Since the archives have expanded beyond so-called "progressive rock" with inclusions into more modern progressive music, sometimes the line that one should draw is difficult.
Just a needless tangent: I considered starting a thread in Suggest New Bands for an innovative composer/ arranger (classical/expreimental/electronic), inventor, and MIT professor (well known for using computers for music and for chamber music) called Todd Machover after being wowed by an operatic piece he'd worked on for MIT that uses tape-loops. I quickly squelched the idea, however, especially when delving into the discography. Anyway, I enjoy baqbaq's music quite a lot, and notice the "friends." At first glance, I really don't think anything that gets an influence from "post rock , dub , 60 70s rock, funk, jazz ,HipHop, electronica, IDM, Noise, afro beat, experimental music etc...." could be thought of as prog, but I really liked some of their stuff. I would need to hear more to make a final choice, but Circle-O was a great tune, nice and slow and relaxing...fairly post-rockish to me. I would certainly keep an open mind about this group though. |

BUMP. I really am curious as to what people think of the music (and progressive qualities, but no pressure - lol).

No opinions? Probably too techno/ambient. Ah well, long shot.
And the hip hop and others in the description does not give much confidence: "post rock , dub , 60 70s rock, funk, jazz ,HipHop, electronica, IDM, Noise, afro beat, experimental music etc...." Ah well, live and learn. I wouldn't have deemed it Prog per se anyway; more "progressive music" that might have been deemed interesting to post-rock/ electronic likers. Good music; think Prog-Jester will like it. Edited by Logan - September 16 2007 at 13:23 |
