ALBUM Today’s addition is a monumental box set by one of my favorite musicians, the divine John McLaughlin, which summarizes his outstanding career over the years: John McLaughlin - “The Montreux Concerts” This monumental Box Set (17 CDs!) is a collection of live recordings by John McLaughlin and his various ensembles at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland between 1974 and 1999. 25 years of McLaughlin’s brilliant career are summarized here in a continuous stream of mind-bugging musical brilliance and diversity. The exceptionally warm response and rapport between the musicians and the audience (which is so typical of the Montreux Festival) and the brilliant sound quality turn this set into a dream-come-true for every McLaughlin fan on earth. The various McLaughlin’s groups captured here are: Mahavishnu Orchestra Mk. II (with Jean-Luc Ponty and Gale Moran), Shakti, One Truth Band, Mahavishnu Orchestra Mk. IV (with Bill Evans), Free Spirits, Heart Of Things and Remember Shakti. Also included are duets with Chick Corea, Paco De Lucia and Carlos Santana. McLaughlin plays acoustic and electric guitar and the guitar synthesizer, all of them with his usual eloquence and elegance. All this is an ocean of music, crossing genres like Fusion, Jazz and World Music, always brilliantly performed and highly inspiring. The genius of John McLaughlin as a player, composer, bandleader and visionary artist is omnipresent here from the first note to the very last. Although this set is relatively expensive, buying it is money well spent, probably better spent than any other recorded music you can get. Absolutely essential! https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102329JAZZIS WEB SHOP The 20 % discount on ALL items Sale continues! HAVE FUN! |

ALBUM Today’s addition is another monumental Miles Davis box set, which is considered by many as his fines work ever: Miles Davis - “The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings Of The Miles Davis Quintet 1965-68” This is the 4th chapter in the Columbia’s epic series of Miles Davis Box Sets, which is a monumental reissue project of recordings by the most important Jazz musician of the 20th century. This set presents the complete studio output recorded by the legendary quintet between January 1965 and June 1968, which included Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone), Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Tony Williams (drums). During this three and a half years period this quintet was the most important jazz ensemble in the world and also the most stable musical environment Miles ever enjoyed, which enabled him to push the boundaries of music ever further, slowly changing the face of jazz from the bee bop and hard bop traditions into the free style Fusion, which was to emerge as the next step of his visionary path. The sessions included here were released on the following albums and compilations: “E.S.P.”, “Miles Smiles”, “Sorcerer”, “Nefertiti”, “Miles In The Sky”, “Filles De Kilimanjaro”, “Water Babies”, “Circle In The Round” and “Directions”. As to the music – anything I can say here will be completely banal in view of the sheer genus of this masterpiece. Not only is this some of the most essential music recorded in the 20th Century, but even every individual note played here is essential. This icon is a must in every respectable music collection. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102328JAZZIS WEB SHOP The 20 % discount on ALL items Sale continues! HAVE FUN! |

JAZZIS WEB SHOP If anybody wandered where did I disappear please don’t worry – I’m still around. The last 2 weeks have been completely overshadowed by moving my warehouse, which was a grueling physical task. I never imagined this will be so difficult and time consuming, but apparently over the years I managed to accumulate enormous quantity of junk and music. I also had to dismantle the shelves where all the CDs were stored and then assemble part of these in the new storage room, transfer all the CDs and order them in a way I can find everything. In the process massive amounts of stuff had to be thrown away of course. Every night it took me an hour to shower in order to get all the muck and dust off my body. The hard physical labor was only a pert of it. The move symbolized for me an end of an era – the fall of many of my dreams and ambitions. Being a part of the music industry I suffer the consequences of the disappearing music market and the absolute need to downsize and very probably close the retail business in a foreseeable future. As a result of the much smaller storage capability of the new place I have a serious problem fitting all the CDs in the new place. I announced a Warehouse Clearing Sale – with 20 % discount – hoping that the sale will take the stock down considerably. Of course considering the dwindling sales this might take a while. I’m seriously losing all hope as to the music retail – it seems nobody wants to buy music even if I sell it below cost? I have created some direct links to the Sale, One Of A Kind and Vinyl LP sections of the site, which take you directly to these sections with one click. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?s=sale https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?s=sale_one https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?s=lpHAVE FUN! |

ALBUM Today’s addition is the only item by the brilliant Swedish band Isildurs Bane, which was missing on my site – here is completeness for you! I’m glad that I finally closed a deal directly with the band, which should make the supply of their stuff more reliable on one hand and enable me to spread their music more efficiently on the other. No need to remind everybody that to me they are the best and most important Prog band in the world – here I said it again. Isildurs Bane - “Songs From The Observatory (EP)” This EP is a companion to the Mind Vol.5:The Observatory DVD by Swedish Prog Masters Isildurs Bane. Three of the four tracks on the EP come from the DVD, but the last one was previously unreleased, which is reason enough to get the EP, surely for the many IB fans. The music is of course divine, as always – a perfect mixture of contemporary classical music with Prog elements, rich orchestral arrangements and all the rest that makes IB the best Prog band in the world. The songs feature the splendid vocals by Mariette Hansson, who also wrote the song’s lyrics. Mats Johansson on keyboards (the IB resident composer and leader) is brilliant as always. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102327JAZZIS WEB SHOP Moving my warehouse – this is a nightmare! ALBUM Today’s addition is an album by a dear friend a great musician – Polish composer / bassist Zbigniew Wegehaupt – one of the most important players on the local scene: Zbigniew Wegehaupt - “Zbigniew Wegehaupt Quartet” Polish composer / bass player Zbigniew Wegehaupt (or Wege to his friends – born in the same Polish town like myself!) is one of the most distinguished jazz musicians in the country. In the last 20 years he’s been one of the most intelligent and reliable bassists in the country and a member of bands led by top Polish players like Zbigniew Namyslowski, Janusz Muniak and many others. His flawless intonation and incredible swing served as a basis for countless recordings and concert performances. Unfortunately his recordings as a leader have been rather sparse and therefore this new album is a most welcome addition to his discography. For this album Wege formed a new quartet with 3 young and incredibly talented Polish Jazz players: Marcin Masecki on piano, Jerzy Malek on trumpet and Sebastian Frankiewicz on drums. The music is a collection of Wege’s Jazz compositions from the past, which remained previously unrecorded. With the quartet as a vehicle the music is presented in full glory, flowing and swinging straight to the heart. This is modern Jazz at its best, full of beautiful melodies, superb expression and dramatic crescendos. The level of musicianship is truly astounding and it’s very hard to believe that such young musicians are capable of such mature statements. This is a great joy to see that the new generation of Polish Jazz musicians is living up to the expectations left by the glorious Polish Jazz tradition. Absolutely not to be missed! https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102326JAZZIS WEB SHOP Moving my warehouse – this is a nightmare! HAVE FUN! |

ALBUM Today’s addition is a remastered edition of a classic early electronic / psychedelic album by White Noise: White Noise - “An Electric Storm” 1st album by UK experimental group White Noise, which where pioneers of electronic music. The group consisted of Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson, who worked at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop (famous for the many scores it produced for BBC productions like “Doctor Who”) and US-born David Vorhaus, who studied in London in the later 1960s and shared a common interest in electronic music with the two. Island’s owner Chris Blackwell heard some early recordings by the group and offered to release an album with their music, supporting them with a modest budget. The group constructed a special studio to record their music (as the existing facilities at the time we inadequate for electronic music) and eventually produced their opus, which was released on Island in 1969. The initial reaction to the album was very limited (it sold only a few hundred copies) but in time the album achieved a legendary status it deserves. The groundbreaking approach to music and the bold ideas were of course aeons ahead of their time, but the music still sounds quite fascinating today. David Vorhaus later kept the White Noise name alive by releasing several albums under the moniker. The album was out of print for extended periods of time and the remastered edition with extensive liner notes by reissue specialist Mark Powell is most welcome. A classic. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102325JAZZIS WEB SHOP Preparing to move my warehouse – this is going to be a nightmare. HAVE FUN! |
