If you think most prog-metal is boring w**kery in songs based around single simple riffs, there may be a few bands you should try out, like Meshuggah like someone already mentioned, and possibly Ark, and maybe Mastodon! all 3 are completely different from eachother, and they are all one-of-a-kind bands with their own unique sounds. But it's your own choice, my goal is not to shove 'my' music down your throat at all costs

Hey everybody,
Don't you guys remember when you too were 17 years old ?
Do not hat the kid. He has to mature and become adult and becuse of his age he uses words like hate and stuff like that. Give him time he will cach with it. eventually. The fist timei hear bands like
Le orme, Gong, Renaissance And even Dream theater I really did not like at all I won't say I hated them but I pretty much did not like them at all. NOW I love all the bands mentioned. Now I am 36 years old.
Come give him some break !! It is so cool to see young kids these days that listen to prog. That is so rare!!!.

I think it's a bit amusing that having said he dislikes (hates) metal and prog metal the only recommendations he's getting are for metal and prog metal.

Your term "hate" towards prog metal pinched a nerve my friend ... see the thing is the resurgence of prog  is thanks to a few things,  prog metal being one of those things
