I think they're uncomparable... But I voted for Roger Dean because I'm a Yes fan.

I'm a rush fan, but pssh... I mean, give me a break. He came up with
the concepts but didn't do much illustration... except on 2112, right?

I like Giger, but everything is soooooo dark. When it comes to art, I prefer to be uplifted, not depressed. Dean.

Ummm...you also left out Paul Whitehead. Not only did he design the Mad Hatter logo for the Charisma label (on which so much amazing early prog was released), but he also did the covers of Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, H to He, and Pawn Hearts, among others.
Peace.

They are both completly differnt artists, but as far as cover designers/
illustrators, Dean is better. Giger is not really a cover/album designer. He
more well know for his conceptual work. As an artist myself, I love both
styles and am highly influenced by both.
btw...I voted for Dean...

How can you compare the two? One draws scenes for hippie potsmokers
that are full of life and imagination while the other one draws figures
that are akin to the grim reaper. It also depends when you're talking
about. For instance, the cover for Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards is,
in my opinion, pretty shotty, whereas the cover for Yes' Relayer is
amazing.
And aside from BBS, what other prog covers did Giger draw for?
