Beware. A Google search threw up for 'Hiromi, a lady who staed her desire had been to appear nude in Playboy. At first I had problem working out why a new jazz pianist wasn't wearing much.......wrong Hiromi.

P.S.I'm confused that nobody likes Tsutomu Izumi. He was one of the first japanese prog-rock keyboardist! |

Surprised the godfather of Japanese keyboard rock, and ambient, and................, Ryuichi Sakamoto (well know for contributions to David Bowie and David Sylvian albums) has been neglected.

Thanks for your reply and recommendation Dick, I will check out Hiromi's first album.
I am a huge fan of Toshio Egawa and I was lucky to see his band Gerard during their European tour and even got the opportunity to interview him for a Dutch progrock magazine. He revealed that his mother was piano teacher, that turned out to be a major boost to his amazing skills, if you like 'over-the-top-keyboard-driven-symphonic prog', then check out Gerard Live

No I must admit I've not heard these two. I'm slightly reliant on Alan Freeman of Ultima Thule to recommend and sample me with some of the less familiar bands - he seems to have a reasonable graps of my tastes but has never pushed Ars Nova (even when their albums were in stock), but he found a good'en wrt Food Brain. But next time I go across to Leicester I'll get him to play some Ars Nova, etc.

I can't choose only one player. I like Izumi, Kumagai, Egawa, Yanagida. But also I like Sakuraba Motoi, Nanba Hiroyuki, Tsukamoto Shusei, etc, unlisted popular progressive rock keyboardists. |

Go for Food Brian's but important omission is Hiromi, now wowing them for her jazz fusion keyboards - first album said by critics to have a Krimson influence.

My favourite is Shusei Tsukamoto from Outer Limits and Vienna (he isn't in the list of the topic)
The second is Keiko Kumagai and the third Toshio Egawa

What about Katsuhiko Hayashi from Mugen?? He's really good... Even I really love the work of Keiko Kumagai and Toshio Egawa... And BTW Keiko is really a beutiful woman...
