The Motorcycle Diaries was a good film.
I've visited Honduras and really liked the place, really sad some of the problems there though I volunteered at an orphanage for 2 weeks, almost 500 kids were at that orphanage alone
I've also been to mexico, just baja though so I've just seen the tourist type stuff.

Nice, Aussie... Smile

As can be seen, there are 3 countries in the TOP 20 and the average per capita income is fair, mainly if you consider, at least in South America, that food and cloth prices are probably the cheapest you can get.

The main problem is the gap between the richest and the poorest with a relatively huge middle-class always fearing the highs and lows of the governments, thence prefering a unrestrained consumption than bank savings or purchasing company shares or even acquiring federal bonus, which are prime movers of the economy and development.

We'll  we in Puerto Rico are in a very bad economical status. We were one step close to being bankrupt and, yes, corruption is the mayor cause for this. An example of this is  when you see a construction taking place they put a big sign saying what are they making and how many money did they spend making it. You can see a simple skatepark made out of wood costing up to 4 to 5 million dollars!

I remember also that at the start of november we had to start paying taxes and one of out ex-governors (Pedro Roselló) went to eat at a fancy restaurant. When the bill came he looked at it and said that he wasn't going to pay it since the tax raised the price of the dinner significantly. So he paid the food without counting the tax money and left. One of the guys that saw what happened and didn't had nothing to do with it went to the waiter and payed the extra 15 or so dollars when Rosello was looking. Those news spread wide across the island and everyone knew what he did.

The sad thing is that he (Rosello) was one of the guys that was promoting and saying that we need to pay taxes so that the goverment won't go bankrupt.

It's a sad world indeed.Unhappy

EDIT:

Oh! y saludos a todos los latino americanos de Progarchives! Big smile

Ok, anyone, Latin American or not, is welcome to post here, but in a positive way.

Please, let's talk about politics, culture, history, geography, except SPORTS. Tongue

The initial issue is: why our countries are generally in a good economical situation but have still a enormous debt in the social and educational fields? Even coutnries like Argentina & Uruguay that in the past were examples in these 2 later fields lost terrain for most of the European countries and also some Asian, not counting USA & Canada.

Ok, one may say "corruption" but it does not explain everything, many 1st World countries have serious problems of corruption, but they are still great.

Any thoughts? Is there something to add?
