I'd put girlschool in the Joan Jett category, not quite fiull on metal. About as close as I care to get, personally but are Girlschool or Joan Jett or The Runaways Metal?
Maybe Lita Ford when she went out on her own in '79 |

Anyway, they've all got girly hair, so who can tell from gender?

Burning the witches isnīt one of their best numbers. I donīt think she sounds like Dee Snider at all.

That Burning The Witches song is quite poor. I've just realised she sounds like Twisted Sister's Dee Snider when she sings

I forgot about Girlschool, they formed up in the late seventies.
Arch Enemy is probably more Peter Rideoutīs cup of tea Edited by WaywardSon - December 04 2006 at 10:16 |

Have a look (and listen) at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS1tzTFbOFo (Angela Gossow / Arch Enemy) Edit: Sorry, didn't notice that this was about the *first* female vocalist of Metal ... but she's surely one of the first really extreme vocalists of metal. Edited by MikeEnRegalia - December 04 2006 at 10:11 |

Who would you say was the first female to front a real metal band?
Was there anyone before Doro Pesch of Warlock? Warlock was founded in 1982.
Not talking about Joan Jett or Heart, but real pure metal.
Not for the faint hearted...
Doro Pesch singing Whiter shade of Pale
