Gentle Giant - Symphonic Prog!!!
Anyway, i'd leave the Art-Rock category, and i would add the new subgenre: Hard-Prog/Dark-Prog!!!

I think the sub-genre Art Rock is just fine. No need to over complicate things.

I've always thought that Art Rock is a strange name for a subgenre, as
it's often used as a synonym for Progressive Rock. The sheer variety of
styles to be found in the category here on the site emmphasizes this
point. I like the Hard Prog and Dark Prog ideas, but more are needed. For
instance, where would Gentle Giant go if we split Art Rock into only
Hard Prog and Dark Prog? They're neither dark nor that hard.
After much thinking on this subject I think it's best to forget about subgenres alltogether. We can still agree that most of the bands on the site are Progressive Rock in one way or another, regardless of the category they're in, so why not leave it at that? Over-categorization always leaves some people dissatisfied. Edited by Philéas - November 18 2006 at 14:10 |

If we are talking about new prog-sub-genres then surely my band are starting off our own sub-genre and we are unsigned! We are a Heavy Progressive Rock Band: We are to heavy to by a symphonic band yet not heavy enough to be a prog-metal band, so we are in the middle: HPR people, remamber it an help get us signed! LOL

Hard Prog would be great for RUSHand their followers, DEEP PURPLE, URIAH HEEP, CAPTAIN BEYOND, KANSAS, ILUVATAR, even ENCHANT.Can't see much point in Dark Prog - almost all prog is pretty dark

Art Rock discussion...once more.
Andrew, you can place your idea upon MANDRAKEROOT's topic. I think Ghost Rider made one topic regarding the change of the brand...or...the new subgenre idea. and so on, by searching and finding... Edited by Ricochet - November 18 2006 at 07:56 |

I *think* that this new subgenre will not be created here on this website ... but I *know* that it exists on mine:
http://www.progtology.com/db/tags/heavy.xhtml As you can see the list would be more meaningful if it could be narrowed down to Rock (obviously metal albums are inherently heavy), and if there were more entries in the database. And here's "Dark": http://www.progtology.com/db/tags/dark.xhtml Edited by MikeEnRegalia - November 18 2006 at 07:53 |

The term Art-Rock in my opinion is too generic, some groups should be included in precise sections, for example RUSH [Hard-Prog], Van Der Graaf Generator [dark-prog], etc... So it will be great to create a new subgenre - Hard-Prog/Dark-Prog. Which are your opinions???
