The last month I've heard so much dark Zeuhl & similar stuff that I wish I'd waited till now with making this poll.

'1313', or maybe it's just the Dore engraving on the inside cover.

Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra is not on the list but i think its one of the darkest albums i ever heard, the atmosphere is not dark like in Universe Zero or like VDG but its very emotional and mellincolic, also Pulsar's Strands Of The Future is very dark and mystic. |

your posts evoke several feelings:
- I would've thanked for the lyrics; for I love that album and wanted to sing; but as I learn the meaning beneath them; I'm not so sure of that anymore (actually I already knew what "Phallus Dei" actually means... but I never thought they would take it this far!)
- I speak a little German, and I wanted to improve it; but after this I'm not sure of that, either! after all, I listen to the songs without paying attention to their meanings, and enjoy them; but when I sense their contrast to my beliefs, I can't enjoy them at all!!! The same happened when I discovered what it was about VdGG's White Hammer ... what can I do, I'm a conservative christian! ("conservative" in this sense doesn't mean "catholic" or "traditionalist"... I'm neither!)
all in all, you're doing a good job here! keep on!

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |

when it boils down to that, no album is darker than "Phallus Dei" by Amon Düül 2. the song "Dem Guten, Schönen, Wahren" ("For the Good, the True, the Beautiful") is about a child rapist and murderer. here the German lyrics and their translation: "Ihr ließet die Kindlein zu mir kommen! In weißen Kleidern mit Blumen im Haar hab' ich ihnen die Unschuld genommen, kann euch nicht sagen, wie schön es war!! "You let the children come to me! In white clothes, with flowers in the hair, I took away their virginity! Can't tell you how wonderful it was!" Dienet dem Schönen, dem Guten, dem Wahren! Peitschet ihn aus, er bebt schon danach! Lasst ihn die süße Qual erfahren; er sehnt sich so nach Schande und Schmach! Ja! Serve the Beautiful, the Good, the True! Whip him, he is already quivering for it! Let him experience the sweet torment; he so craves for disgrace and ignominy. Yes! Wir tanzten zusammen Ringelreih'n und sangen ein wunderschönes Lied. Die Kleinste fing an, nach der Mutter zu schrei'n. Ich durchbohrte sie sanft mit meinem Glied. We danced ring-around-the rosy together and sang a beautiful song. The smallest started crying for her mother. I gently penetrated her with my member. Kommet zuhauf und seht ihn euch an! Das Haupt kahlgeschoren und lächelt noch! Frisch ans Werk, 's ist gleich getan. Hängt ihn auf, den geilen Moloch! Ja! Get thee all here and behold him! His head shaved bald and still he smiles! Let's get to work, 'tis easily done! Hang him, the lusty moloch! Yes! Now that's what I call "dark". |

unfortunately I don't have the "other" version anyway ... strangely enough; my computer's soundcard is broken down here (at work) and though I loaded the CD here, I'll have to wait 'till I get home to check out your instruction ... Durations match, anyway...
and I'll have to wait 'till another spring to get the CD version, if ever
those who are curious of the mp3'ed vinyl version; you'll have to track it down in Russia (a CD called "Space Rock", printed by a group which call their CD's "domashniaya kollektsiya" - "home collection"...) or, more easily, when you drop in at Istanbul; I'll give you a copy for free
I'm sorry for deviating this much from the original topic; but at least I help to keep the thread alive

Yes, its dark. Another dark and creepy krautaband/album is German Oak. Highly reccomended. Read the tho reviwevs and you'll get the idea. All this talk about the Xitintoday album I haven't heard, makes me very curious. |

you can easily tell the CD-version from the vinyl version. if you hear sounds that seem to be knocks on a wall at the beginning of the first three tracks, you have the vinyl version. these are knocks on the walls of the Great Pyramid (from within; the album was recorded inside the Great Pyramid)

This is my exact track duration listing, with less-than-minor, 1 second variations in 3 tracks. I am surprised how Russians (or whoever the hell it was who converted the vinyl into mp3...) did such a precise job.
(I was pretty sure of the '70's sounds anyway... besides, the music is just as described in band info, and the track tags are credited to 1978)
btw, I was wrong about the cover. I confused it with Anubian Lights' 2nd album, which is also in my disc. It is still different than the one featured in PA discography anyway... hard to describe, but basicly it's a graphic of "Sphynx" words in various sizes, forming a shape of scorpion...
Thanks again, Jeanine... Is the CD version track durations much different?

I only listened to 5 of the albums listed here, so I won't vote: I'll just express my opinion by naming the darkest album of these 5: Pawn Hearts
