Progressive rock is my big discovery. My favorite discoveries within prog being Jethro Tull, Opeth, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and Gong. Outside of prog rock my favorite discovery is the amazing music store Amoeba Music. If you are ever in Los Angeles you must go there with like $100 bucks. It's Heaven, only better

O' you should have us fall"

My favourite discovery in 2004 was a fifty pound note in the back pocket of an old pair of trousers.
'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Beyond all great albuns made this year, I have to advice this one, because it is very unknown and so, underrated:

FORGOTTEN SUNS - Snooze

Riverside - Out of Myself

Overhead - Zumanthum      (mp3 free download on official website, very good, somewhat comparable to riverside's album, maybe even better. There is a new album on the way if I'm not mistaken. )

IQ - Dark Matter

Kansas (knew 2 songs of them but didn't know they were any good besides that)

And The progarchives, which gave me more insight in what it is i like about, and like in music.

Long Live progarchives and M@x and all who contributes, Heep Heep Horray.

I'm always almost unlucky _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Id5ZcnjXSZaSMFMC Id5LM2q2jfqz3YxT

2004 was my first year as a prog fan, so I basically discovered all of the prog bands i like this year (except for KC)... a short summary of that would be:

Yes, VDGG, ELP, Pink Floyd (i had heard of them before of course .... but i really got into their music this year), Soft Machine, Caravan, Colosseum (went to their concert), Eloy, ANGLAGARD !!!!!, CAMEL!!!!, Genesis, Rush

i also got into post-rock recently with those bands:

GY!BE, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Tortoise

Great Year! Thanks to PROGARCHIVES, you made my music life so much more interesting and fascinating!

[X] best site ever!

Just today I discovered one of the greatest albums of 2004: Marbles

True, while it doesn't live up to Marillion's fish-era productions, but it is still an outstanding album. I would have to say, so far, it is one of the greatest releases of 2004.

my favorites over the last couple of years, dont find
much that moves me these days, so the rarity is
quite a find for me!

progish -
Bozzio Levin Stevens - Black Light Syndrome
Mermen - Amazing California Health and Happiness

others -
Larry Carlton - Sapphire Blue
Wynton Marsalis - Mr. Jelly, Lord

Action Figure Party - same
St. Germain - Tourist
were pretty good too, just a little to polished or
simple for my old ears.

I lived in a musical timewarp since Fish left Marillion.
In fact I couldnt even listen to Marillion (Fish era or not) until i discovered this site and reignited my passion for Prog Rock. Rush, Yes,Genesis, Elp &Floyd were my "main men" but I hadnt been taking it further any more-certainly not discovering new bands or taking risks buying classics by Tull,VDGG, or Gentle Giant that I had owned on vinyl.

My 2 main discoveries:

1.Porcupine Tree ( I now have every single album yet scarcely heard of them until last July)
2.Riverside-Out Of Myself is still on heavy rotation in my Cd Player.

But I have a massive playlist of "Various Prog" from this site that I listen to, in full, every fortnight at least.
Cheers Max!

Clap
