i have two P. emerson williams podcasts that are approximately 1 hour each-they appear to be either one song or a group of songs meshed together
5 songs on my itunes (with certain exceptions):
Ulver (with Ihsahn, Samoth and Fenriz)-Song of Liberty (26:23)
Renaissance-Ashes are Burning (Live) (23:53)
Orion-Dance of the Tri-Axle Orbit (20:48)
Opeth-Black Rose Immortal (20:14)
Electric Wizard-Burnout (18:38)
Three not on my ipod, but running in excess of 30 minutes each:
Grace Slick-Theme From the Movie Manhole
Monster Magnet-Tab
Eloy-Atlantis' Agony at June 5th-8498 13PM Gregorian Earthtime (Live)
the monster magnet and the eloy would not copy properly onto my ipod and therefore are not on it. Edited by darksinger - August 24 2006 at 15:16 |

If computer counts, my record-breaker would possibly be KS's Into the Blue, but I didn't load it in my mp3 player (it's a 20 GB sony, and I prefer 64 kbps oma format)
I prefer Return of the Tempel from that album...
indeed, Mr. Schulze seems to be king of length.. and I will admit being surprised by many prog fans' appreciation of his "later" music ... I usually turn the page (to some other band) after Miditation or Dreams... I think he's best when he goes around 25 minutes. Albums from Moondawn to X (maybe along with Live) are just great...
Ash Ra Tempel (which also features KS in this instance) has also some longer-than-usual tracks in my player, those in M.G.'s private tapes. Ein Würdiger Abschluß (A worth conclusion!!!) is around 50 minutes, if I'm not mistaken
Don't forget Tangerine Dream as well. Since you guys brought separate movements of a piece altogether, this also counts: Pergamon: 46 min. Soundmill Navigator: 41 min. (this one is even in one piece) Tangram: 40 min. Ricochet: 39 min. Rubycon : 37 min. ... not to mention the loose jams in Bootleg Box Set (especially those in Vol. 1)
after these, I won't bother mentioning Yes', Genesis', King Crimson's (et al) relatively shorter (!) pieces

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |

I have some CAN jams on bootleg that go well over an hour. Also, their is a KCCC (king crimson collecter's club) release (live at the zoom club, 1972) with jamie muir that I have which features over an hour of continuous improv joy. Its just a shame is sounds like it was recorded from outside the venue.

Fantomas - Delirium Cordia - 74mins
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness - 60mins Mike Oldfield - Amarok - 60mins Sleep - Dopesmoker - 60mins The 4th song up there was suggested by a friend... dunno why I still have it on my MP3 player, honestly as it's so totally awful. Sleep is a really crappy stoned-out Black Sabbath rip-off. They steal from Sabbath to the point where it's hard to tell them apart. The only way I can tell them apart is because Sleep is just plain boring. |

The 3 long ones in my MP3 player are 10-minute-something classics:
Steve Hackett's "Shadow of the Hierophant"; King Crimson's "Larks Tongues Pt. 2" and Genesis "One for the Vine."
Yes -- the group Yes -- has no place there.

Exactly how does anyone make a 7 hour album. I dont have the really long epics on my MP3 player. I find that when I'm on the go I prefer the songs to be under 15 minutes. Though I do prefer songs to last longer han 6. |

Arguing with anonymous strangers on the internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be or seem to be self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free
time. |
For anyone intersted here is a full list of longest songs:
http://www.dprp.net/longsongs/longsongs.php
A 420:00 song!!!!
That is insanity!
Wow I thought Jerusalem was the longest. Sadly mistaken
I'll have to go and listen to that 420:00 one. See if i can stand to listen to it straight. That's like seven hours.

I'm not obsessed. But, in his case, lenght is a main character and one of universal elaboration. So it's a keen thing to stand for. |
