I've been registered on this forum long enough, and I finally decided to say something and I guess introducing myself would be the first step.

My name is Pat (18), and I am from the Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania.  Strangely enough, the band Opeth is what got me listening to Progressive music.  Throughout middle school I listened to classic rock and some progressive music that I heard on the radio. (Rush, and some King Crimson)  A friend of my brothers started to slowly brainwash us with Opeth.  It took a while, but I fell in love with Opeth and I now own their entire collection!  During that whole period I listened to a lot of what I would consider now, horrible music.  I tried a little bit of everything in the metal category because I loved Opeth so much.  I came to the realization that Opeth is a progressive band, and that's what I liked so much.  Their main man, Mikael Akerfeldt, is who really turned me onto classic progressive music.  He is a huge fan of bands like Camel!  I started listening to Moonmadness, and other classic albums that I now adore.  I guess it's wierd to say that a death metal band got me into prog, but then again, maybe its not.

Anyway, some of my favorite bands at the moment are...

Anekdoten
Paatos
Morte Macabre
Dungen
Landberk
Caravan
Camel
Genesis
King Crimson
Yes

I guess that sums myself up enough?  I am fairly new to progressive music I guess you could say, so any suggestions are surely welcome!

Pat
