One thing is natural colour / tone on one's voice, other thing is to emulate techniques and vocal resources.

He was influenced without becoming a copy. I'd say his voice sounds more like Gabriel than Hammill. It's only the natural voice tone though, their styles are quite different.

On a side note: Fish was the first choice of Hammill for the role of
Montresor when he recorded "The Fall of the House of Usher", but they
found out their voices sounded too similar, so Hammill chose Andy Bell
of Erasure instead.

Fish obviously looks up to these classic prog singers, but he has invented a style of his own. He may resemble Hammill sometimes, but really he just sounds like Fish. I love all the singers mentioned but Fish is Fish, none of the others.
His lyrics, though to me are most similar to Hammil's lyrics, and his stage presence may resemble Gabriel

Nevertheless its vocal stamp it is very similar to Peter Gabriel... For this reason fish is compelled to imitate Gabriel.

I consider him a second Gabriel, and also is style is very near to Genesis' style: a classic symphonic prog

I'd accept that if only the evidence wasn't so lopsided in favor of Fish 'lifting' a few ideas from Gabriel.

Early Marillion lifted a few ideas from Genesis ,there's Grendel sounding a bit like Suppers Ready in places , what better teacher than a master like Peter Gabriel ? (not forgetting Gabriel was influenced by Bill and Ben the flower pot men) are we going to call Gabriel unoriginal ? I thought not  I applaud Fish for being a great students of the arts . When you think about it all we do here in humanity is emulate what inspires us anyway (and if we have the "vision to emulate what is worthy that's our own good fortune) . That doesn`t make Fish`s contribution any less valid does it ? (and he did bring with him his own sense of style) people always seem to run Fish down like he is a flim flam man or something , I however have the deepest amount of respect for Fish the man is a genius just like Gabriel is.

You obviously haven't heard much Hammill, else you would know he
definitely CAN sing. I recommend you listen to "This Side of the
Looking Glass" from his album "Over"; if you still say he can't sing
after that, you are a hopeless case.
