Actually II = I sounds damn easy to get into - I mean like typical DT oriented prog metal. But the funny thing is it actually took me a lot of time to fully appreciate. now I love it. Chimera is awesome 2!

II=I is a good album, some nice melodies and cool atmosphere, but rather boring with the time.

Really? Extension of the Wish impressed me, but II=I didn't strike me at all.

There are quite a lot of other bands that could have been in this poll, my personal favourite (ARK) included. But, from this list, I go for Ice Age without hesitation. Brilliant band.

Wow.....such a hard decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toss up between Indukti,Winds and Wastefall.
I would say Indukti, their debut is incredible and I think they have a great future.

I saw the mention for Zero Hour and I definately would have voted for them. The Tipton brothers (Jasun and Troy) absoluetely own. The technical precision these guys can execute is amazing.
From the poll, I'll take Andromeda. Their second release II=I really impressed me. Very melodic and intimate album. Lots of excellent tecnqiue showcased as well.
If Zero Hour is too underground, what does that make Canvas Solaris?

To refer to the list
Adagio, Andromeda, Ice Age
(btw I wouldn't say Adagio and Andromeda are underground bands - the other ones are fitting well imo)
other: Vauxdvihl/Payne's Gray/Clockwork/Before Eden/Ricochet/TOC

Would you consider Zero Hour underground? If so I'd say them. But based on the list I'd say Andromeda, although I really like the little that I've heard of Wastefall.

Listening to one sample song gives me nothing to judge about the band, leave alone to call it "my favourite".
I have albums of 6 out of 12 listed bands in my collection, plus listened to full albums of Spastic Ink and DGM, so I can't vote here at first place, and at second - none can be called my favourite anyway.
However IMO Mekong Delta wins any poll about underground prog-metal. |
Usually the sample songs on the bands' websites are representative of their style ... after all, they want to promote their music with these samples. I think they are a reasonable basis for voting in such a poll, which is - after all - just "for fun".

Definitely Beyond Twilight... All their 3 albums are fantastic, and their last album "For The Love Of Art And The Making" goes beyond excellence IMO...
Yes Mike, really a very good list... There are some other very good bands, which are most of them ;) My other favourites are Adagio, Indukti, Agalloch, Winds and Power Of Omens...

Agalloch, by far.
I was about to start complaining about the lack of quality groups but then I saw your comment about extreme groups being excluded on purpose so yeah.
