Dreams: First (1970) I found this one in a sales bin a couple of days ago, one of the first Proto Jazz- Rock records with an impressive line-up: Billy Cobham- Drums/Michael Brecker- Tenor & sax flute/ Randy Brecker- Trumpet& Flugelhorn/ John Abercrombie -guitar/ Jeff Kent- Keys, guitar& vocals/ Doug Lubahn- Bass and vocals/ Barry Rogers- Trombone/ Edward Vernon - Lead vocals
They sound similar to Blood Sweat & Tears with some extra punch for the solos. While BS&T were playing more arranged Brass sections, Dreams had a more interesting solo potential. BTW Randy Brecker had played with BS&T. All the compositions are by Kent/Lubahn and are rather Pop oriented, but the solos are excellent. It is an interesting record/document for early Jazz-Rock.
