(Shiina Ringo)
Auuu ! Japanese proggers seldom talk about her, because she is one of the top popular singers. I didn't know she made such a psychedelic feeling album.
(KARUKI ZAAMEN KURI NO HANA). However this is CCCD. I wish to buy but also I don't buy CCCDs. How stupid Toshiba EMI is to release it on CCCD !

I feel like a complete newbie when it comes to Japanese prog, but the more I play it, the more I'm convinced that Kenso's FABULIS MIRABILIBUS is the best prog album to come out of ANY country in the last ten years! (Just read my review if you want to find out more.)
Also, if you're a prog-only maniac you may not be interested to hear this, but I have been deeply impressed by KARUKI ZAAMEN KURI NO HANA (2003) by Shiina Ringo, one of Japan's top female rockers. It's a neo-psychedelic album, somewhat similar in style and mood(s) to Kevin Ayers' CONFESSIONS OF DR DREAM, Todd Rundgren's A WIZARD A TRUE STAR, and that mini-opera by Kate Bush about a drowning girl (although the vocals are totally different from Bush's). Fairly spooky, but still fun, if you see what I mean. So if you can get hold of it, don't hesitate!

Adam, I just wanted to thank you in front of the forum for baing the main cause of my increasing and porfound interest in the Japanese music scene on all its varieties (be it noise, "usual" prog, zeuhl and the rest of the lot). This scene is becoming my number one priority in unravelling and discovering new and old obscure bands/musicians. I now put extra emphasis on learning more and buying more music from these two countries. The two other persons I wish to thank are Honganji and Yukorin. The problem with the Japanese scene is obviously the language barrier which makes it difficult to find much info in English, which is available but not as much as it is in Japanese. I also looked at a list by Honganji and I saw there names written in Japanese and this constitutes a problem in looking for those bands, since I don;t know their names...

Sorry about the slow reply. But I don't know much about Epidemic Cause still. There are actually 2 CD's in my store, but I always seem to buy something else instead. Though I was having a look through some of the ablum details and it seems both of those albums for produced by an Australia record company. I will have to ask to have a listen sometime soon. |

Just to mention again my enthusiasm with Le Silo and their release 8.8.
Take all that is good from RIO/Avant bands of passed times and squeeze it tightly and you get this dynamic performance.

Although I only have one Bondage Fruit album (IV) I think it's quite
excellent and would love to hear more of their stuff. Storm Bird Storm
Dreamer is a favourite track of mine, still can't work out how the
guitarist doesn't get arm ache! Since a few others have listed their
Japanese prog, here's my list.....
Ain Soph - Hat and Field , A Story of Mysterious Forest Ars Nova - Biogenesis Project , The Godess Of Darkness , Keyboards Triangle Bi Kyo Ran - Bi Kyo Ran , Parallax , A Violent Music Bondage Fruit - Bondage Fruit IV Gerard - Keyboards Triangle , Live In Marseille - Battle Triangle , Pandora's Boz, The Pendulum , Sighs Of The Water Happy Family - Happy Family KBB - Four Corner's Sky , Lost and Found Kehell - Galileo Kennedy - Kennedy Kenso - Esoptron , Fabulis Mirabilibus De Bombycosi Scriptis , Kenso (1981), Kenso II, Kenso (1985) , Live On Air West , Yume No Oka , Progfest 2000 Sidesteps - Alive , Out and Out , Points of View Terus Symphonia - Do Androids Dream of Electric Camel without exeption these are all great albums as far as I'm concerned. Kenso are my favourites. The only moan I have is with the awful singer Gerard employed (Robin G Suchy) who totally ruins a lot of their otherwise excellent material. All in all though Japan has a lot to offer and I'm sure I will be finding a few more gems in the future! |

2.Cosmos Factory
4.Kenso
5.Novela
1.Killing Time
2.Katra Turana
3.Taj Mahal Travellers
4.Heretic
5.Pazzo Fanfano Di Musica
1.Cinorama
3.Kirche
4.Fairy
5.Wha-ha-ha
2.Cinorama/庭々
Sinfonia Della Luna
4.Heretic/Escape Sequence
5.Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO/Electric Heavyland
3.Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO/Have You Seen The Other Side Of The Sky ?
4.Kenso/
5.Altered States/Bluffs II
