Yup, several. IMHO, anyone who says they've never bought an album based on the cover is either incredibly pretentious, a liar, or both. Really, music is art and the album cover is part of that art - think of it as the frame. Anyway, I bought Marillion Script for a Jester's Tear because of the album cover and was not disappointed (see my review for comments about that experience http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=60983). I actually bought a bunch of Marillion disks after that mostly because I liked the covers (and also by then I knew that I'd like the music as well), including the 12" picture disks for 'Lavender', 'Fugazi', 'Kayleigh', and 'Market Square Heroes'. Also bought the first R.E.M. album (EP actually) just because of the cover. This one also turned out to be a good choice, as their next six or seven albums were great, although they got kind of boring after Automatic for the People. Edited by ClemofNazareth |

Yes - Relayer comes to mind. Bought it in Covent Garden, London, January 2001.

Sorry, I've never bought an album just for the look of the artwork.

No ... not another which is best or worst album cover art! Who has bought albums based soley on the album cover art work... and has been pleasantly surprised that the album music content is equal to the quality of the art work on the cover??? My love for Prog began this way when I saw this album cover in 1969: ...the rest is er..history. Anyone like to share which album cover has been the motivation to buy the album and it has been a good decision to buy that album? |
