I casted my vote for Oscillospira.

2020, like 2021, was another year in which I didn't seem to listen much of. A lot of the albums on the lists, I had not listened to. I need to give Magick Brother & Mystic Sister a listen from 2020 and 2024.

The end of my 2020 list is a collection of varied non-prog. A few of them I had to enter into Awesome Prog so they would show up. Also trending for me was instrumental prog.

1. JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland - Oscillospira [AP Prog]
2. Lunatic Soul - Through Shaded Woods
3. Motorpsycho - The All Is One
4. Pixie Ninja - Colours Out Of Space
5. All Them Witches - Nothing as the Ideal [AP]
6. Onségen Ensemble - Fear
7. Ovrfwrd - StarStuff
8. Herd Of Instinct - Unravel
9. Vespero - The Four Zoas
10. Samsara Blues Experiment - End of Forever
11. Nick Prol and The Proletarians - An Erstwisle Alphabestiary: Book One
12. Horse Lords - The Common Task
13. Zopp - Zopp
14. Wobbler - Dwellers of the Deep
15. Sonar - Tranceportation - Volume 2 [AP]
16. Algiers - There Is No Year [AP Prog]
17. Angélica Garcia - Cha Cha Palace [AP]
18. Pottery - Welcome to Bobby's Motel [AP Non-Prog]
19. The Smashing Pumpkins - Cyr [AP Non-Prog]
20. S.G. Goodman - Old Time FeelingProg.

Moving on to 2019.

^ interesting. Nothing but Thieves is one of my Nephew's favourite bands and he flew (with his sister) to Lithuiania over the weekend to see them. Had a great time apparently.

I guess I'm a week behind on these polls. Looking at this list, 2020 wasn't a great year for me musically (looking at my lastfm stats, it is considerably lower in listens than prior years). I think I've only heard a few of these albums, a few times. Fiona Apple wins from the list.

Outside the list, my winner (by quite a large margin) is 'Moral Panic' by Nothing but Thieves. "Death by Rock and Roll" by the Pretty Reckless also rates highly (but I didn't hear it until last year). Both are pretty straightforward rock records, not sure if they have much appeal here.

I didn't think this was one was as strong as the years surrounding it but it definitely had some gems. Out of the poll options I chose Figures. Wobbler is one of those strange bands for me where I like what I'm hearing as I'm listening to it but it neither sticks in my mind nor gives me the urge to ever go back to it. Anyway, here is my list!

1. Kairon;IRSE! - Polysomn
2. Missigno - Binary Digit Temple
3. Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
4. Tigran Hamasyan - The Call Within
5. Aksak Maboul - Figures
6. Louis De Mieulle - Sideshow 2
7. Chick Corea - Chick Corea Plays
8. Keith Tippett - The Monk Watches The Eagle
9. Homunculus Res - Andiamo In Giro Di Notte E Ci Consumiamo Nel Fuoco
10. Wyxz - Odyx
11. Alex Ward Item 4 - Where We Were
12. Zopp - Zopp
13. John Zorn - Calculus
14. Jaga Jazzist - Pyramid
15. The Nels Cline Singers - Share The Wealth
16. Terms - Asbestos Mouth
17. Horse Lords - The Common Task
18. Música D' Repuesto - Game Over
19. Fred Frith, Nicolas Humbert & Marc Parisotto - Cut Up The Border
20. Irreversible Entanglements - Who Sent You?

Five of my top seven are here, missing The Tangent and Sonar from that year.
So from my top five hmmm... I think I agree with Ian here in that Thirlwell/Steensland release, and my vote.
I'm surprised how much I like that Pendragon album, then there's Wobbler, Motorpsycho and Zopp.

I thought that in 2020 I'd have listened to much fewer new prog albums because I didn't do research just to put a list together for album of the year. But in fact I have a good number of 2020 albums, a quite strong year, with the Cisnienie album being the best of the prog crop. Slow Glass by ex-Comsat Angels Stephen Fellows is probably my album  of the year. The Zopp album is very good but maybe a bit too modest and unspectacular to win album of the year. the Motorpsycho album is a quite different beast. I also love what Anna von Hausswolff and Aksak Maboul came up with. Schnellertollermeier - 5 and Arch Garrison - The Bitter Lay are PA albums that I love and that are not listed.

Fish on Friday! I listened to it a lot and am pretty fond of its miserable songs. LOL
Wobbler, Pendragon, TFK and Fish would obviously come as noteworthy honorable mentions.

Out of those I have to vote for Wobbler, I simply don't know the other releases well enough. 2020 was a year where I just did not listen to music that much, with the pandemic, my daughter being born in the middle of it, getting married and moving from Germany to Sweden all took precedence over music.

Will have to do some catching up. Nevertheless all of these are solid recommendations:

Logos. Thirlwell & Steensland would be my second choice. Tiger and lions and old cylinder desks. Oh my.
