excelent album!! 5 stars works for me, no doubt in my mind, and a good price for the JPN paper sleeve version (only 28 bucks?) i think i got mine for 40 bucks!! 
Excelent addition for a collectionist, i love those Jpn sleeves!!

I totally agree with you on this. It's a nice album with few good
songs, but it's extremely overrated among fans of italian prog.
Moreover, There better "classic-prog" albums out there IMO.

This was my first impression of the album!
After more listenings I have to say there's an impressive and
complex musical structure, shifting moods, soli, varied musical
solutions etc. Some parts seem to be inspired by Gentle Giant,
some other are influenced by Jethro Tull. I've found also a jazzy
part!!!!
Powerful church organs, classical strings, baroque harpsichord,
classical guitar in a outstanding flamenco vein...all deriving its
inspiration from some of the most famous preludes and toccatas of Bach!
Also some lyrics tell the stories about Bach's life!
For example Johann's lyrics are: "Johann Sebastian Bach had 21 childs, 20 he brought up, 1 he abandoned, in Scotland".
The album could deserve a five star rating IMHO! |
I bought the album, due to the great reviews here, and the fact that I
loved the PA's sample (Cello 503) Listening to it now for several
weeks has not done anything to have me doubt that the superlative
reviews were dead on. A fabulous album, which along with Felona E
Sorona has been in and out of my car's CD player for several weeks now.

Contaminazione is what its name represents!
A great and varied classical-baroque-prog with electric guitars, keyboards, orchestra, violin, trumpet and harpsichord solos, classic and acoustic guitars...
The complete title of the album is: CONTAMINAZIONE, about some ideas and preludes from J. S. Bach's "well-tempered harpsichord".
It isn't ELP oriented, though!

go with the original italian version. i have both and they're really not much different, but somehow it just seems more majestic in italian.
if you have a record player, the english version appears on ebay quite regularly for pretty cheap - done in canada, iirc.

I got an Italian version via Amazon for less than $15. I love
that album, became a must have when I got hooked by
the sample. A wonderful album, if you are not put off by the
classical nature of it.

Yes I guess you´re right, Heptade (by the way I have the CD-R version of that Harmonium album...) specially when it´s the italian language, such a beautiful one.
The japanese release of Contaminazione must be really an colllector´s one.

I've only heard the Italian version. I prefer to hear
people singing in their own language. PFM and Le
Orme didn't benefit at all from English translation.
Anyway, I haven't heard "Contamination", so I can't
comment on the quality.
Not sure if it's worth 28 bucks...depends on how avid
a collector you are.

Yup, it's really good, if you don't mind a heavy, heavy
classical influence. Mind you, it's about a classical
composer, so it would be.
I wouldn't necessarily call the keys Emersonian, but
they are in the same ballpark and are very
impressive. Great melodies, great playing. A minor
Italian classic.
