Emerging in the waning days of the subgenre's popularity, Sky Burial were a North American post-metal unit from Nashville, Tennessee. The group initially began as a five-piece, featuring Alraune's Jesse Weilburg (guitars/vocals) and Jordan House (bass/vocals) along with Beau Dunavant IV (guitars), Dawn's Ivan Doerschuk (drums) and Karoshi's Lemyng (drums), the latter of whom departed in the wake of Sky Burial's eponymous debut CD (distributed through Anti-Corp in 2010). In 2012, Sky Burial released an independently-issued demo and their sophomore-cum-swan song Where Four Rivers Flow via Replenish Records. Nothing more became of Sky Burial except for less than a handful of subsequent live performances and an abortive recording session for a tentative third LP, running out of steam sometime around 2015.

Reminiscent of later Isis, Rosetta and Braveyoung's prior incarnation Giant, Sky Burial's burly but restrained brand of atmospheric sludge rides the subgenre's Boléro-style repetition into a meditative, rather than aggressive, state of mind, recommended for those who like their post-metal at a medium-to-low simmer rather than full boil.
