let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

In 2019, Louis Lafontaine (vocal, guitar), Catherine Laurin (violin), David Lemyre (guitar), Raphaël G. Longval (bass), and Patrick Bureau (drums) formed Pourpre, a progressive rock group based in Montreal, Québec. Their sound emerges like a massive vintage fresco, with meaty rock-style, weird idiosyncrasies, heartbreaking lyricism, and a hint of virtuosity coexisting. The band's musical style draws inspiration from the legendary British progressive rock acts of the early 1970s. They recorded their self-titled debut album in early 2023 at Studio Kampus and at Studio Madame Wood in Montreal. A physical CD and an online album were released on March 3, 2023. The line-up appearing on the album is Catherine Laurin (vocals, violin), Louis Lafontaine (vocals, guitar, percussion), Maude Fréchette (violin), Raphaël G. Longval (bass), Antony Joubert-Tremblay (drums, percussion), and Patrick Bureau (drums). "Pourpre" is a rather good debut album, and it's always a pleasure for these ears to listen to good progressive music from Québec, in French too!
