I have Prog Line to thank for discovering the outstanding Dutch band, Differences. Their second and final album "A World of Difference" (1992) is well-worth a listen too. Thumbs Up

Not a great year for prog, so I've had to pick 'n' mix some classic non-prog albums to make a Top 10. Geek

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Differences - The Voyage
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
The Enid - The Stand 2
Annie Haslam - Still Life
Jethro Tull - A Classic Case
Propaganda - A Secret Wish
Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair

I appreciate everyone's contributions as it jogs my imperfect memory!  Sting's "The Dream of the Blue Turtle" was a fine effort and great little movie to boot!
agreed. I looked it up for my 1984 selection and found I was a year out then forgot about when I did my 1985 selection lol.

1985 has no perfect albums, so ranking them after the clear winner, Power Windows, was difficult. As I remember that year, it seems that most of these were released just a few short weeks before 1986.

1) Rush - Power Windows
2) Mike Rutherford - Mike and the Mechanics
3) Asia - Astra
4) Eddie Jobson - Theme of Secrets
5) Pete Townshend - White City
6) Supertramp - Brother Where You Bound
7) The Firm - The Firm
8) Jon Anderson - 3 Ships
9) Robert Plant - Shaken'n'Stirred
10) Red 7 - Red 7

1985 - lots of great music, very little of it on PA. I had the resolution to only allow a very few artists not listed on PA into my lists, I have already listed Irmin Schmidt and may use Mick Karn later - those that I thoroughly believe should be here. Alas, I only have nine albums to be listed from PA in 1985, and no release by Schmidt or Karn, so I'll introduce Einstuerzende Neubauten here, and if I do that, there's no position for that  album other than the top spot. I hope it's not going to be a habit, I'd really like to stick to the rules (or rather my interpretation of them Wink), normally.

Edit: I found some more that weren't correctly dated on my machine, so the Neubauten are out of competition now and there's an actual PA top ten.

(Einstuerzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch)

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
David Sylvian - Alchemy - An Index of Possibilities
Art Zoyd - Le mariage du ciel et de l'enfer
IQ - The Wake
Present - Le Poison Qui Rend Fou
Legendary Pink Dots - Asylum
Robert Wyatt - Old Rottenhat
Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal
Ozric Tentacles - Erpsongs
Clannad - Macalla

4. Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatigue
5. Rush - Power Windows
