Yes in my opinion, they are the undisputed
Kings of progressive rock.

in response to certif1ed, if you understand yes' lyrics, theyre actually quite amazing. they are sort of in a completley different dimension from genesis and others.

The lyrics are one of the major things I have issues with - in my opinion they suck - but I'll just leave it there...
In her white lace You can clearly see the lady sadly looking. Saying that she'd take the blame For the crucifixion of her own domain.
I get up, I get down, I get up, I get down. Two million people barely satisfy. Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late. The eyes of honesty can achieve. How many millions do we deceive each day? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.
In charge of who is there in charge of me. Do I look on blindly and say I see the way? The truth is written all along the page. How old will I be before I come of age for you? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.

Anyway, I voted Genesis a while ago. Just because they appeal to me more. Less showoff soloing, more emotion, more beautiful, calm compositions. But if you actually compare albums judging by musical execution, Yes wins.
Yes > FGTR Time And A Word < Trespass Yes Album > Nursery Cryme Fragile < Foxtrot CTTE > SEBTP TFTO > The Lamb Relayer > TOTT Going For The One > WAW Tormato = ATTWT(never heard the whole thing) Drama > Duke 90125 > Abacrap Big Generator < Shapes Union >> Invisible Touch
Haven't heard later yes albums, but judging by the ratings, they have to beat the horrible WCD and CAS.
Still, Yes wins. Correct me if I'm wrong somewhere

Okay...there's no way in hell Tales From Topographic Oceans is better than The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

Genesis without a doubt.
Yes never produced anything near Selling England, Foxtrot or Nursery Cryme.

Neither did Genesis, you idiot.
While Yes are better musicians (except for Collins, that is), Genesis' music is so much more powerful, moving, and diverse.

I like Genesis a bit more but close to the edge is still the purest of pure genius.

I firmly believe they should compete on the merits of their "classic" periods. I prefer Genesis, because their sound is more stately, their singer more interesting, (vocals are a major issue for me) and their instrumentalist just more generally melodic than Yes.
Yes can be more impressive, though. And Genesis have no "Roundabout" or "Long Distance Runaround" singalongs!

No shut up.
All seriousness aside, I would have to go with Yes as my
favorite. Has anyone heard the rumors of Phil Collins and Peter
Gabriel re-uniting for somewhat of an official "farewell" tour for
Genesis? Phil Collins said he wouldn't object to taking a seat at
the drums while Peter leads the show with the vocals. I wonder if
it'll actually happen.

I HAVE to pick Yes simply because they got to me first. They're one of the reasons I'm into prog right now. Genesis only came after I discovered prog.
