GREAT SONGS

Heart of the Sunrise
Epic, incredible drumming, interesting middle section, though a bit noodly. Slightly edges out #2.

South Side of the Sky
Always clicks with me, really like the Himalayan vibe, frenetic riff and lovely piano interlude. Guitar tone is very crunchy - almost too crunchy, for my taste - but still not Relayer levels. You like it?

Roundabout
Smoke on the Water syndrome, I heard it a thousand times and I'm afraid there is a repetetion (or two) too many. Still a landmark song!

The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)
The kind of fish that's always fresh - one in a million. My favorite "shorty", hands down.

Long Distance Runaround
Very memorable, would like to hear more of these from Wakeman-Bruford lineup.

GOOD ONES

We Have Heaven
Sounds like an early draft from Olias or something. Loveable, but too short. Drum fills are <3

Cans and Brahms
Okay it's not really a song, just classical excerpts, but I enjoy it! Dunno why it's criticized so much.

Mood for a Day
Gotta admit: I tried to learn it on guitar and spent TOO much time on listening to it (and practising). Never nailed the fastest part though. After hundreds of listens it got old...

MEH

Five per cent for Nothing

I agree with a lot of this ranking! :)
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I wish I could get into Heart of the Sunrise, it just feels so messy and random to me.

I've had a similar problem with it, and it's the one I like least from the group songs of the album. Yet, check out the version played by ABWH on An Evening of Yes Music... it's my favourite version, and somehow I find it more enjoyable than the original one.

Try hearing it changing Cans and Brahms with Wakeman's Catherine of Aragon (which features all of Yes from the time - except for Anderson - and I have read Wakeman wrote it intending to use it for his solo spot), and the whole album becomes more consistent, and the solo bits problem seems to go away (if it still bothers you, just leave out We Have Heaven and 5% for nothing, though they are too short to matter either way).

I'll never really get the hype for this one fully. From a production standpoint it's amazing, but I don't really see how any of the songs compete with anything from the 3 following albums, i'd even say The Yes Album is far better all around. 11th best prog album of all time? Not sure about that, I give it a very light 4 stars.

indeed - it is one of their very best, though they do have a few masterpieces.

If you were twenty years older I doubt you would have roundabout as number one because you would be sick of hearing it so much on the radio. That is of course unless you never listen to the radio. Tongue It's really the main reason I don't have it higher on my list.

I try to think about radio hits as if I was hearing it for the first time with no outside influence. And tbh, everytime I listen to the Steven Wilson Remaster its like hearing it again for the first time.Smile
