I was born in the perfect year for music: 1959 - just old enough to have lived through the whole of the 1960's and still young enough now to enjoy the marvellous, never-ending breadth of music available on the Internet - and most importantly of all, just the right age to fully appreciate prog in the early 1970's. Smile

I have a few gaps to fill in. Tongue

Well, I'm not as old as some on here. I was born in 1970 which seems to be right around the time when prog was starting to put itself on the musical map and gain more attention in more than just a cult way(which seems to be where it sort of is these days also. Lol).

My issue is I haven't really heard enough prog to comfortably do one for every year. If I just was going to do random albums then I could possibly do it but my expertise on albums is lacking somewhat so I would rather just be a spectator here.

Ok I was going for the listening aspect rather than age thing but yes you are a spring chicken compared to me (I was born 62) and many others round here. Next year is a biggie thenWink

I seem to be somewhere in the middle. I'm a spring chicken to you and others and yet a geezer to some younger folks. Prog fans my age are rather rare though because prog was off most people's radar in the eighties.

I suppose that's true as when I go to see a 'classic' prog band then most fans seem to be about my age unless they have sons and daughters who come along out of interest.

I did go to see Godspeed You Black Emperor a few years ago and was really surprised at how young most of the people there were so perhaps the other strands of prog (ie not 'classic') are a bit different.

Well, I don't believe all younger prog fans are into it because of their parents nor do I think they are all into the post rock/ metal end of it but a lot of them are and they do seem to out number the older fans depending on the band. When I saw Haken there were some older fans but most were younger than me. However, when I saw Ozric Tentacles most there seemed to be really young or getting ready to retire. Lol. I think part of that is because the younger OT fans are jam band fans which appeals to a younger audience while most of the older fans are prog fans who have known about the Ozrics for a while(myself included).

LOL!!  I was born in 1955, so I'm in the same boat, mate!

Advantage of being an olde fart....I saw Yes tour with CTTE, King Crimson with LTIA, Jethro Tull with TAAB etc.

OK, here we are. I tend to buy albums later than in the year in which they appear, so for 2018 and 2019 the competition was pretty thin and chances are this will change (although the Matmos album is pretty strong; Soft Machine 2018 are quite good but not quite of "top albums of the year" standard). Of 2016 and 2017 I already have more than one album that could have won another earlier year.

1966 Beatles - Revolver
1967 Pink Floyd _ The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
1968 Holger Czukay - Canaxis
1969 East of Eden - Mercator Projected
1970 Van Der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other
1971 Can - Tago Mago
1972 Association PC - Erna Morena
1973 Genesis - Genesis Live
1974 Can - Soon Over Babaluma
1975 Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
1976 Van Der Graaf Generator - Still Life
1977 Luciano Cilio - Dialoghi del Presente
1978 Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
1979 Holger Czukay - Movies
1980 Comsat Angels - Waiting for a Miracle
1981 Comsat Angels - Sleep No More
1982 Kate Bush - The Dreaming
1983 Japan - Oil on Canvas
1984 David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees
1985 Einstuerzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch
1986 Astor Piazzola - New Tango: Zero Hour
1987 Startled Insects - Curse of the Pheronomes
1988 Wim Mertens - Whisper Me
1989 Fred Frith & collaborators - Step Across the Border
1990 Shudder to Think - Funeral at the Movies
